A young woman was knocked unconscious during a violent attack by five men on a bus in London Bridge.

This CCTV captures the gang getting on the 344 bus at Lambeth Road heading to Clapham Junction on August 29 at around 1.15am and the subsequent shocking assault on the 22-year-old.

The group headed towards the back of the bus where the victim was seated, and words were exchanged, including members of the group criticising the victim’s clothing.

One man then poured a can of drink over the victim and pulled her hair. She got up from her seat, but was pushed and then kicked in the stomach. The victim fell to the floor of the bus and was unconscious. After the assault, the group of men got off the bus and headed in the direction of Lambeth Walk.

The London Ambulance Service was called and the victim was taken to St Thomas’ Hospital with an injury to her head. The injury was not severe and she was treated and released later that day.

The main suspect for the assault is described as a light-skinned black man of slim build. He is approximately 20 years old and was wearing a black T-shirt with a patterned pocket on the chest, dark trousers and a baseball cap worn back to front. The other four men in the group were also black. One of the men was sitting on the lap of another for some of their time on the bus.

Det Con Kyla Mulley, of Lambeth CID, said: “This was a shocking attack on a young woman, prompted by nothing more than a brief exchange of words. It is vital we track down this man and hold him to account for his behaviour. I am also keen to speak with other members of the group, who would be able to assist the investigation.”

Anyone with information can call DC Mulley on 020 8649 2196. Alternatively you can report information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
