Uber

Opponents of the firm claim it causes gridlocked roads and does not do enough to regulate its drivers.

Some 3.5 million passengers and 40,000 drivers use the Uber app in London.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said in a statement: "I fully support TfL's decision - it would be wrong if TfL continued to license Uber if there is any way that this could pose a threat to Londoners' safety and security."

General secretary of the Licensed Taxi Drivers' Association Steve McNamara said: "The mayor has made the right call not to relicense Uber.

"We expect Uber will again embark on a spurious legal challenge against the mayor and TfL, and we will urge the court to uphold this decision. This immoral company has no place on London's streets".

These guys are so bitter

london is big business. this is just an attempt by TFL to take the heat off them and pass the approval of Uber to the courts.

im sure their appeal will go through..

they dont cause gridlock on the streets as londons roads are already gridlocked...

what they should do to Uber drivers though is give on the spot fines of £200 if they just stop anywhere they like and put on their hazard lights of invisibility....

its just stupidness, there's an obvious demand and good innovation, lets just regulate it more and create infrastructure to support it

black cabbies just need to accept they're of the past and their service is less needed, they're not gonna go back to the £50k/year they used to pull in - they get to be the guys who are right on spot in central, I don't think there's any more entitlement they're due

we just need to make sure the new drivers are able to make a living wage (whatever the f*** that is in London these days)

actually fuck living wage..the way uber is in america as it was intended is as a part time job.that allows joe bloggs to train up under good regulation and earn a part time  flexible income without the need to train up under full regulations as a full time cab or taxi service...all of which is legal.

but trust londoners and their greedy selves always seeking to spoil shit.. what living wage do you want?

it was not intended as a full time role. if you choose it as your full time role then you can make a decent income

the whole thing about minimum wage and not being self employed is just nonsense.

its is the only type of true zero hours contract thing... just like deliveroo.. they are part time jobs. the minimum wage is how up to it you want to earn money. stop fucking expecting everthing to be done by the government or piss off and get a real full time job.

I'd say 70k is more likely and that would be working 6/7 days of the week.
