Real Madrid face Fifa investigation into 51 youth transfers

Fifa is investigating Real Madrid's youth transfer policy and has asked the club for information on 51 players.

Club director Emilio Butragueno confirmed Fifa had asked the Spanish Federation for documents relating to transfers over the last five years.

Butragueno said the club was "absolutely calm" about its behaviour.

Fifa handed Barcelona a transfer ban until 2016 after they breached regulations when signing 10 players aged under 18 to their academy in 2013.

In a statement, Real Madrid said the majority of the 51 players world football's governing body had asked for information on were exempt from regulations for various reasons.

Among the exemptions the club pointed to was the fact that 10 players were Spanish nationals and 23 foreign players had already been registered with a Spanish club.

Fifa rules state  international transfers are only permitted for players over the age of 18 - unless the player in question meets one of three qualifying criteria.

Under-18s can move to a club in a different country if their parents move there for non-footballing reasons, if they are from another nation within the European Union or European Economic Area and aged between 16 and 18, or if they live within 100km of the club.

On Thursday, Real Madrid completed the £2.3m signing of 16-year-old Norway midfielder Martin Odegaard from Stromgodset.

Their La Liga rivals Barcelona are not allowed to sign any players in 2015 after their appeal against their transfer ban was dismissed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in December.

Can sign players but cannot register them.

Yeah read that was the rule.

Would be f*cked if they managed to sign someone with a name with them knowing they can't play.

It won't be that bad

Not being able to play for five months

Some reason I thought it was longer than that.

Still, I would be surprised if someone did sign.

He just turned 20

slowly establishing himself as a starter + getting better every game

recently signed a new contract

He could have a good 10 years at the club at least before thinking about selling

All of that is true, no doubt, but it doesn't mean that he won't make the most financially sensible decision.

If Barca want him (this is the key thing) they WILL get him. If not now, then next season. Either way, they will get what they want.

Arsenal will almost certainly take the money, if history is anything to go by.

1) He will force a move i.e. his agent will tell him how financially beneficial this will be and the move = forced.

2) You keep ignoring my key argument here (not maliciously though): If Barca want him, they will get him. He (or no sane player) would refuse the opportunity to go there. Even if you KNOW you're going to be a bench warmer. The improvement his game will make in that time will automatically guarantee him high salaries for life and an easy international career.

Be interesting to see how Arsenal react to these situations now.

Everybody forgets that our financial constraints played a massive part in us having to sell players that we didn't want to. It was actually part of our business strategy to help subsidises the loan repayments.

But them days are gone so boyyyy
