Doreen Lawrence to star in Marks & Spencer advertising campaign?

The mother of murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence is rumoured to be starring alongside Emma Thompson and Annie Lennox and be photographed by Annie Leibovitz

According to reports in today's Sun newspaper, Marks & Spencer has cast Doreen Lawrence, the mother of murdered black teenager Stephen Lawrence, in its next advertising campaign.

Lawrence - officially titled Baroness Lawrence of Clarendon - is said to have been photographed by Annie Leibovitz, whose portraits of celebrities regularly feature on the cover of glossy magazine Vanity Fair. It is thought that she will star alongside actress Emma Thompson and singer Annie Lennox.

The 61-year-old has been in the headlines ever since her 18-year-old son was fatally stabbed during a racist attack in South East London in 1993. She campaigned tirelessly to bring Stephen's killers to justice, culminating in a public enquiry in 1999 which concluded that the Metropolitan Police was 'institutionally racist' and one of the key reasons as to why the case had not been solved. Gary Dobson and David Norris were finally jailed for the heinous crime some 19 years later, in 2012.

Doreen Lawrence was made a life peer in 2013 as Baroness Lawrence of Clarendon and sits on the Labour benches as a working peer.

Last year high street retailer M&S cast an eclectic mix of leading ladies to be shot by Leibovitz, ranging from singer Ellie Goulding to Olympic Gold winning boxer Nicola Adams and philanthropist Katie Piper.

Llow her she's funding the campaign to fight for justice for her murdered son, and quite rightly coz it shone a light on corrupt police officers and their attempts to discredit a dead black man and his family.

Kudos for being able to stay in the limelight so long
