Ashley Cole to retire from international football after missing out on England squad for World Cup as Luke Shaw gets nod from Roy Hodgson
  • Luke Shaw will go to the World Cup ahead of Ashley Cole
  • Cole, who has 107 caps, will retire from international football
  • Shaw, 18, is one of eight players in the squad aged under 24
  • The squad will be announced on Monday at 2pm at the Vauxhall car plant
  • Ross Barkley is in, as are Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere, despite concerns over the Arsenal pair's fitness

How are we crying over Cole? Baines has had a solid season and is nearly 30. Even he has one tournament in him before Shaw and Gibbs step in.

Cole has to stay at home.

Because he can actually defend unlike the rest of the candidates. And he actually turns up.

I think it's disrespectful to leave cole out after he has served his country so well

Should still be starting let alone make the squad

True.

But its all too familiar.

I think he should be on the plane and all.

Should have given the FA the middle finger long time ago.

02 he was good apart from when Dinho sent him the wrong way with the step over.

04 he was class even put Cristiano Ronaldo in his pocket

06 see 04

10 he was just ok

12 see 10

Cole has been England's most consistent player since the turn of this century.

All four full backs are average and will get easily exposed

England have always been solid in tournament football but not this time

The Cole on is abit 50/50, only player that turns up at international level consistently, but he's not getting any young, Baines has been solid + playing consistently for a few seasons now and is better going forward. It would be a disrespect to Cole anyway to bring him along as backup.
