Haggling when buying a car

Looking to hear some tips / stories of how you haggled some money off when you bought a car.

I'm pretty shit at haggling and I'm looking to get better at it.

Did you have a target price? How did you work it out?

Did you point out faults with the car in order to get money off, or did you just go in with the haggle?

What was the list price and how much did you get off?

Was it a private sale or a dealership?

Thought this would warrant it's own thread but if mods think otherwise feel free to merge onto the car driving topic.

Safe

Isit worth going car auction?

Yeah I've heard mixed things about auctions.

Someone I knew bought at car at one, they thought they got an amazingly good deal... Then they got in the car to drive it away. Lethal combo of the smell of cigarette smoke and dogs.

It's common sense to point out faults and use it to bring the price lower

But it all depends how much the seller wants to let it go

Can do it both in a dealership and private

becoz they are major corporations, i would say you would have to do it with the manager or store manager

obviously its not like your usually shitty shop owned by patel

if you look in the sales of goods act and the rule of law... anything that is commerically viable to be sold to the public is able to be haggled

obviously if they dont want to haggle then its a no innit

but becoz currys for example is such a big big organisation.... they dont NEED to haggle so youll find them say no prob 100% of the time

Was at car giant in Harlesden earlier on viewing a couple cars trying to haggle

They weren't having none of it. Gonna go back tomorrow and whip out di stack and see what they're saying then

Bought my car from there 3 years ago, was tryna haggle all day but they weren't having a bar. In the end I got £200 off a £13k car. It mattered not that I was paying cash up front

When I used to go Currys and look around you'd get salesman come up to you and if you say "I like this but its a bit too expensive, you have anything similar but cheaper..." - they'd usually bring themselves down, then you know the possibility is there, you push it down a bit more, they bring it up and bang.

If you know someone who works there they'll probably tell you the most they can bring it down by.

Also if you can pull up an Amazon page that shows a cheaper price on your phone you can probably get it dropped straight to that.
