Former 1Xtra DJ Robbo Ranx has branded the people in charge of running the station as 'out of touch.'

Robbo Ranx left the radio station this week after more than 10 years on air.

In a statement released on social media he said: "Unfortunately, this current failure of black music on @1Xtra isn't by accident. As long as we have decision makers who are out of touch and ignore culture that is ingrained in black music this type of story will continue to play out".

BBC Radio 1Xtra have responded by saying: "We'd like to thank Robbo for his commitment and passion at 1Xtra over the last 12 years and wish him every success in the future.

''A new chapter begins in 1Xtra history next week with a refreshed line up and we will continue to reflect the best in dancehall, bashment, reggae and soca on the daytime playlist. Our commitment to Jamaican music continues with a new Seani B Dancehall show Thursday 10pm-1am and David Rodigan's successful Sunday night programme 7pm-9pm."

Robbo Ranx presented the black music station's weekly specialist dancehall show since 1Xtra launched in 2002.

Earlier this year 1Xtra controller Ben Cooper announced changes to the station's schedule.

Robbo Ranx time slot will be replaced by a brand new show which aims to deliver 'Bashment vibes from the Caribbean and beyond.'

It will be presented by Seani B.

In July 1Xtra had to defend itself after announcing that Ed Sheeran topped its "Power List".

Critics thought it perverse that a white singer was voted number one on a station that champions black music.

Grime artist Wiley was one of the most high profile faces to voice his opinions.

In a series of Twitter posts he wrote that black artists had been "bumped".

The 1Xtra Power List top five also included Rudimental, Sam Smith, Tinie Tempah and Disclosure.

Speaking back in July when the list was released Austin Daboh BBC Radio 1Xtra's music manager said: "Every single day of the week, every single hour of the day we support black artists and other races that make black music sounds.

"I think that anyone who wants to bring race into the discussion is probably a little bit misguided."

Listeners helped vote for some of the names on the Power List, with the final order being chosen by DJs and music industry experts.

Sales, social network followers, radio plays and quality of music were just some of the criteria they voted on.

Its not as if he personally picked that list and is defending it.

He works for the BBC its not rocket science.

Its his job to make a statement rebutting whatever backlash there is relating to this list regardless of what his personal opinion is.

Someone who gets it.

I'll always rate this forum but I'm far too old to get involved in the drama so if anyone wants to chat to me for some answers - hit me up in the DMs and I'll call/email you.

Listen you f**king useless slave who gets paid on the 28th of every month.

I don't give a f**k who you work for I know dons on said station and they're humble as f**k so don't be coming on here thinking we should be privileged to get a response from you.

When in a position of power, and black, and have the opportunity none of US have to speak up on said subjects, do so. I don't want a private response or a private conversation. So you don't want people seeing this, screen shotting it and having you on a disciplinary? Then DON'T COME HERE AND DEFEND YOURSELF.

You can't sell out and sign off on bullsh*t statements for money then come here and expect the backlash to stop and for us to understand. I done Cameo's 1Xtra show with my crew back in the day and the Southside Soldiers DJ interviewed us all. That interview never saw the light of day because it was too opinionated from me. He even started the interview by saying "Now we all know you're a man of many opinions..."

You don't think I haven't been on big stations before and made moves with those currently on radio? Some fall in line, others can't keep their opinions to themselves and sell themselves out.

I'm the latter, you're the former, so we have no business conversing and I'll never rate you. F**k your pay check.

but surely when you're in an establishment like BBC its fall in line or get a job elsewhere? no one's really gonna rattle the BBC unless its a collective movement from the inside, but people get comfortable and there's not really places for people to go so losing your job there can dead your career

Then I guess it becomes about what YOU deem important.

What's his salary? Is he famous?

Who gives a f**k. When he eventually gets moved on and cut like half the other staff/DJ's you think I'm gonna wanna hear his sob story then? Half these man are only speaking up now because they're bitter at getting dashed and realised loyalty is only 1 way.
