AC Milan unveil plan for new £225m, 48,000 stadium inspired by Arsenal's Emirates

AC Milan have unveiled the first plans for a new 48,000-seat stadium based on the design of Arsenal's Emirates home.

The club published a series of architect's images on their website of the proposed stadium, which they say will cost around £225m to build and will have one feature Arsenal cannot match - a retractable roof.

They want to move there from their current San Siro home, which can hold 80,000, in time for the 2018-19 season.

The club posted a video featuring a model of the two-tier arena to be built next to the club's recently opened headquarters in the Portell-Fiera area of the city.

Architect Emilio Faroldi says the stadium plan was inspired by the Emirates Stadium, plus arenas in Basel and Neuchatel, Switzerland, and Bilbao, Spain.

Final approval is expected in March.
