But the Dutchman insists his players are creating enough chances and believes Barcelona frontman Suarez or Manchester City striker Aguero would be capable of making those opportunities count.

"The question is would Luis Suarez or Sergio Aguero score if they were here?" Van Gaal said to BBC Radio Manchester.

"That is a question mark and you never know. I think they would, though.

Yeah? Let's go back to July

The Dutchman now says his attack, led from the front by captain Wayne Rooney, is strong enough.

When asked about Rooney’s role next season, Van Gaal told Sky Sports News: “He’s our striker. He has to prove it but I’m fully confident he shall do that – and he’s also captain of the team.

“He’ll play a lot in the striker’s position.”

And when asked what he expects from Rooney, Van Gaal agreed he wanted to see ’20-25 goals’ – “because (Sergio) Aguero is also making that amount of goals”.

That's a good thing. It shows he's changed his mind on our captain and leader and god and saviour and and and.

Now he just needs to pass the message onto the suits and bring in someone to cover the merchandise loss that'd be made in the event of a Rooney sale.

(Fuck knows who'd buy him)
