Was Nelly ahead of his time?

Recommended Posts

1 of the first to do the harmonizing as far as mainstream rappers without being labelled soft as far as the singy song wave, type of beats 99% of rappers use now he was using in 2000, same with the flow alot of rappers today running with that flow, 1 of the first regular guy type rappers that wasn't running with the Gangsta persona in 2000 and now u have many regular guys Kendrick, Drake, Wiz, J Cole, Macklemore, Tyga

imo it wasn't a good idea for him to try make a real country album and experiment with that genre it's good to try new things and branch out but your average hip hop fan doesn't listen to country music it can alienate your core fans. The lane he had he should have stuck to

He was. I remember Pharrell saying the same too.

Nelly's run was A1. With no co-sign and no great expectation from his label.

Tbf he was a major part of making hip hop the best selling genre around 2000-2003

The Neptune's remies, tunes with Timberlake, xtina, delima was a fuckin star wars level platinum smash, fuckin hell that tune got played EVERYWHERE, Im surprised I never got sick of it, every car had "no matter what I do" hot in herre, batter up, ride wit me, EI, and when MTV base would play the tip drill remix. Guy had it all. First time I heard country grammar I felt like I was in an IMAX movie

It's no secret who my fave artist is but Nelly was doing the exact same numbers with Country Grammer in 2000 as this artist was i remember buying both their albums the same time and bumpin both heavily. Nelly was proof that other artists are capable of selling like dude as long as they make good commercially appealing music like him

Yea Nelly was a G. I actually purchased Country Grammar and all the singles at that time. That album was very well produced.

I used to rate Murphy Lee as well.

RIDE WIT ME >>>>>>>>>>>>>> our age group will dance to this into our 80s.

dont care who or where you are, you have to feel it

I still don't know 89% of the chorus lyrics after "if you wanna go and take a ride with me..." But I don't think it'll matter at 80
