A young accountant who jumped to his death from his ten-storey office building 'died of shame' as he lost his battle with a secret gambling addiction.

Josh Jones, 23, died after plunging from employer PriceWaterhouseCoopers' headquarters on London's South Bank, where he worked as a graduate associate.

The talented mathematician and musician had secretly gambled away his student loan and then took out extortionate payday loans to feed his addiction to online poker and betting.

His heartbroken father Martin told his son's inquest at Southwark Coroner's Court that his son had led a 'double life' and has called for UK's £3.5billion online gambling industry to be reformed.

Mr Jones told the inquest: 'Josh was good looking and intelligent and had a good job but he was addicted to gambling.

'He died of shame. He took his life because of gambling. We miss him terribly. Josh started taking out pay day loans at silly interest rates.

'He begged us not tell PwC about his gambling. He led a double life. With his hockey and music friends he was the life and soul of the party. We and some close friends knew the truth.'

Coroner Shanta Deonarine said that Josh's death was suicide and that he had not taken drugs or consumed alcohol before he died.

She told the court: 'Joshua Jones suffered from a gambling addiction, he had a number of financial problems. I am sure that he took his own life.'

His father has called for reforms in the gambling regulations to prevent others being overwhelmed like his son was.

He told the Evening Standard outside court: ''This is such a waste of a young life with a promising future in front of him.

'There are some practical measures which could be adopted to reduce the possibility of another tragedy for another famil - betting firms and gambling web sites could introduce the option for permanent exclusion from their sites, instead of time limited exclusions which eventually permit continued gambling again.

'The betting and gambling industry could introduce effective cooperation to permit self exclusion from one site to be applied to all sites.

'Pay day lenders could adopt equivalent provisions for self exclusion, instead of merely waiting for a borrower to run up a debt and default. How many more deaths are needed before gambling addiction is taken more seriously?'

Taped off: The scene where Josh tragically died after jumping to his death in August last year

Josh was found dead outside his office in August last year, having hit rock bottom because if his spiralling gambling debts.

Many of his friends and colleagues knew nothing of his secret life as an online gambling.

MailOnline can reveal that Josh was already panicking about his addiction during his A-Levels, having spent £10,000 in three years, and the lies he was telling to his family.

His inquest heard that he had in fact spent that student loan money on gambling.

In a cry for help he wrote on an online forum: 'I've just been consumed by gambling - I'm scared for my sanity. I still just really want to play poker as I am confident now that if i had £500+ to play with I could make a living from it if I learnt to discipline myself.

I can't see a way out but am slowly aware I'm digging a hole... I just want to get my hands on the student loan

'I'm not at a stage where I want to stop, I just can't imagine ever doing anything else other than playing poker for a living. I know it's sad, monotonous and geeky.

'I can't see a way out but am slowly aware I'm digging a hole... I just want to get my hands on the student loan', and added: 'Is it legal to gamble your student loan?'

Despite these problems he did well at university and secured a good graduate job before he died.

Chris Butter, PwC partner, said: 'Josh was a wonderful young man - bright and diligent. Those colleagues who were fortunate to have worked alongside him feel a great loss.

'Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.'

He had been a part of the accountancy firm's graduate training programme after spending a year there during his university work placement.

not much can stop me from dabbling in the game, it's one of the little things that actually keep me going, though I am fully aware why I am addicted.

Rip to this young chap. I am in the exact opposite position crazily enough, gambling as of late is keeping me alive. If i don't have anything to focus on, I go down a hole.

gambling addiction is almost like a drug, it takes your mind off/numb other things.

when i die bury me inside the coral store

I had 1 gambling weekend.

Was on a run of like 14 wins in a row, was thinking this ting is childs play lol.

All drawing up charts to make a mill by next month lol.

Remember John Higgings was losing to some no name don like 6-1, came back to 6-6 and missed a simple black to take the game :/

Lost half the dough

Then I put the rest on England to beat Ukraine I think.

Duck mouth Rio did some sloppy backpass and Shevchenko finished off my pot.

Called it a day after that.
