Because it was the Anti Establishment Populist parties who were running with the No Vote and Renzi was the EU Puppet. Italy have stuck their fingers up to his power grabbing plans. The Political problems and banking issues there will have the EU sweating again.
Think the Presidents only asked him to delay it for a few days.
