Zidane @ €45m euros was half the madrids revenue

This £161m is pocket change

Amoroso to Dortmund for £15m nearly bankrupted them and took then a good 8/9 years to recover from

Ignore the numbers

£161 really is just a number.

Especially at the age he's at the bubble showing no signs of bursting.

Even if he flops. The way things are going, they'll just sell him for another "inflated" price down the line.

The product hasn't even reached depreciation age yet.

Those prices in 96 were "ridiculous" at the time too. Football inflation doesnt follow general inflation. Just look at ticket prices lol

Context.

Newcastle were under pressure having sold Cole to main competitive rivals previously. Bringing Shearer back was crucial for Morale and Fergie was sniffing around. Plus Jack Walker at Blackburn didn't need the money so held out.

Also football coming home and all that. The game in England was riding a high.

Let's break it down I said Shearer was as good at everything as Shearer

Shooting - Even

Finishing - Even (Give both 1 chance and they will score)

First Touch - Even

Speed - Even

Movement - Even

Passing - Even

Heading - Can give this to Shearer but Solsjkaer was good in the air too

Crossing - Even

Overall goals to games played ratio - Even

So what was Shearer better at than Ole besides possibly heading? Shearer can take that 1 but Ole was more versatile as he played out wide too and did a great job playing either as a CF or right winger

MERINO SET FOR NEWCASTLE MEDICAL

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mikel Merino is in the North East for a medical with Newcastle

The Spain U21 international is set to join Rafa Benitez's side on a season-long loan with an option to buy.

Merino will follow Christian Atsu, Florian Lejeune, Jacob Murphy and Javier Manquillo through the door at St James' Park this summer.

It was all written.

Not sure what could have been achieved during the first Shearer saga; Him and Cantona with that midfield. Kanchelskis, Keane, Ince and Giggs.

The second time IMO it was abit of a blessing in disguise.

Either way it all turnt out alright.

I rank this similar to "missing out" on Kluivert lol.

Kluivert was better than Shearer, Solskjaer, Cole. I know we have had this discussion before but if we had signed him in summer 1998 we would have still won the treble but actually won more CL's too and wouldn't have had to wait till 2008 to win out next won. Kluivert and Scholes link up would have been heavenly

You're entitled to your opinion. Even if it is wrong.
