there's nothing wrong with representing the community, but there's far more black men married to, or dating black women. let them represent this area first, then they can push whatever else.

you're asking a gay men's health charity to make adverts for heterosexual black couples?

But batts people expect representation in just about every content they see going on.

Meanwhile batts and have their own dedicated gay clubs and gay zones in most major cities etc soho, Brum gay village, lgbt parade days, magazines, and very very strong political muscle and so on.

But still fight for equality...? Where are the straight pride celebration days? Where are the magazines screaming straight only? Where are the mobs of fanatics trying to kill them all, to feel so persecuted?

All this power they flex and still have the nerve to seek attachment specifically with the systematic racial issue that  blacks face globally on the grounds of skin colour... And especially black men as the poster boy of gay shit.

I don't see this brazen effort from them targeting any other grouping of people.

Right now they trying to establish major footholds in Africa. Give it time Lgbt rights ads will replace the famine and aid ads for poor areas of aff soon.

the argument of "Where are the straight pride celebration days?" is as retarded as saying something like "Why don't we get a 'white history month'?". You're saying the same shit about gay people that ignorant white people say about black people.

you may feel underrepresented as part of another minority group (your ethnicity or religion or whatever else) - and that's totally fair, but arguing for a celebration of your majority is retarded

I don't think its a fair reality in the case of how equality for one group of people sometimes pushes the case for equality of another group, but its unfortunately the way society works right now. - I remember when I was younger there was a lot of effort for pushing of understanding and treating equal of people of different religions, these days it does seem that there's way more higher of a push for promoting equality of people of different sexuality.

There was always talk about the inequality in respect to women in the workplace and the inequality in respect to black people in society in general - and no doubt it doesn't feel like society has become more equal for black people at the same rate that society has appeared to become more equal for gay people. So it is totally understandable why comments like Venom's are said. Its like what Dave Chappelle said "The only reason everybody is talking about transgenders is because white men want to do it." and that probably the same for homosexuality, because its a difference owned by white people, the solutions/incorporations into society made for it seem to be way more streamlined.

Thing is one could have looked at these posters as "oh wow, they're thinking about black people" but instead it has been taken by at least one of you as "its not right that they're addressing gay black people when the rest of us black people aren't addressed".

You see when this is a fact

It's not as simple as "oh they are thinking about us". There have been HIV posters for years showing individuals from a range of backgrounds with the black ones placed in areas like brixton. These giant posters serve a further purpose.

All types of men exist, all types of gay men exist, this poster is very emasculating. is it necessary for getting a targeted message across? No

Sayin all that...have jus read it was created for black gays by black gays

So the point of the posters are to promote being more safe sexually, and getting tested/help when needed. Promoting awareness. Right?

You don't think they should make these posters diverse in the need of making the message seem more relatable?

I think you just want to argue

I think you have no interest in trying to see things from other perspectives, i.e. I think you're being close-minded

"you just want to argue" is you just being dismissive. I think through discussion you start to understand people.

I see that although the majority of you guys seem to be against one thing or another discussed in this topic, your opinions come from different places and several of you are able to justify your views in an understandable way. I also see that plenty of you aren't able to understand your own views or at least communicate them well. I also feel that several of your views are coming from the wrong place.

You might be bored or whatever, but that's because you're not hearing what you want to hear. You maybe want people to hi-five you on your opinions and agree with you and maybe somehow "win" the argument of why one thing or another discussed in this topic is wrong. That's not why I'm posting here. I'm trying to understand others and let others understand my perspective. I find the view of Venom's of the feeling of an underrepresentation of the true community to be a great takeaway point and I'm happy to have gained this understanding that may justify why a group of people who may not have anything against homosexuals (or at least not be actively pushing against it) would be upset by something seen to be promoting normalisation of homosexuality in their community.

People aren't easy to change, but understanding people you share this world with is the best way to be less frustrated by them. And the best way to maybe work towards solutions to problems between you and them.

I just really dont think you read my post. Like did u see the bit after the slash?

You just want to rant and likewise I dont think you reallly want to understand other peoples perspectives, you just want us to agree with you because you feel you are right or progressive or whatever

If most of us really dont have a problem with gays an no one in here is really showing thaaat strong of feeling about that poster...why are u goin so ham?

The point of the poster is to raise hiv awareness within the black gay scene and thats great but that poster is promoting more than that. Why? The creators of the campaign said themselves this is two fold, awareness and representation...

Like HIV isn't the biggest thing that pops out at u in the poster and it should be... especially looking at other hiv awareness posters

Anyway i am bored, ur not wrong there

I don't expect to change anyone's mind here. But I'm giving my point of view. Because people do read. And I think people on the other side of the argument have as much to gain from having their opinions challenged and hearing what other people say as I have to gain from them doing the same.

I may have misunderstood what you were trying to communicate before. I understood you were trying to say something like "you don't need to include black people in the poster to get the message across to black gay people" and that's why I responded with the post I did, but I guess that was incorrect and actually the main thing you were trying to highlight was the "emasculating" factor you perceived from it that you didn't like.

"If most of us don't have anything against gays" - the thing is, there is plenty of things expressed here that gives the other impression. I wouldn't use the phrase "ham" to describe the strength of my efforts but I'm not gonna lie it frustrates me that so many people would oppose what in my opinion should be non-issues, whenever I see people arguing against people being given more freedoms to be happy in a way that I don't view as hurting others I just think "why do you even care?" - when I see people against a poster that normalises homosexuality, that in my opinion would make black gay people be more happy to feel comfortable as themselves, it just really feels like they're against against someone else's happiness for no good reason.

I don't think we should attack or castigate the death/disease causing deviants (scientifically proven terminology) but at the same time extremely dangerous to sacrifice our own normality and safety to make them feel extremely comfortable. They are by natural definition an abnormal anomaly and should not be pushed as a mainstream agenda. Accepted yes, but predominant ah hell nah. Put the poster in your gay porno websites or whatever, or tell yr boyfriend. I think if this poster is made by gay black men, they just want to make straight black men feel uncomfortable. Because that's what gets them hard ? I don't know.

It is pretty much a copy and paste job. Being non white is not a deviancy or disability though. My man Powell was making the right kind of speeches, but about the wrong kind of people maybe. Society may condition you to fly the gay/feminist flag as a POC but there's no scientific or logical reason to do so. These groups appear together in the white mans supermarket aisle but that's not how they occur in the field. Melanin is not a disability! being gay or female kind of is. The suffragettes were not trying to kill themselves they were trying to pin a ribbon on racehorses travelling 30 mph. They got the vote for being really stupid!

The patriarchal family system of man, wife and children is the time honoured A1 system of human reproduction. Deviance from the system (ie homosexuality :ergo no children) is acceptable, but not aspirational. Homosexuals 'having' children made to order is a cake and eat it situation. Its a corruption of natural order but who knows ?maybe the kid will be fine with those rich caring parents. Let's ask him/ her in 20 years if we,re still here.

Also maybe the human population needs to gradually decrease now, widespread homosexuality could be a good method of feathering that in. Maybe its all for the best

This is what it boils down to for me. The dumb shit you man come out with regarding gay rights sounds exactly like some racist white man rhetoric

Even worse is it gets pointed out and you started acting oblivious or screaming it's not the same!!! as if anyone was trying to make the exact comparison
