Joel C
In psychology in college we're studying about people's self esteem and at the moment we're on black peoples self esteem about themselves/race, so watch the video ive posted below (its a document relating to the study) there was two studies on it, one from two psychologists called Clark & Clark & then redone quite some time later (after all the black power movements in america) to see whether peoples views had changed - The study was about, they got young children one at a time and had 2 dolls layed out on a table - one white and one black - they asked the child a few questions; Which doll is the nicest doll? Which doll looks most like you? Which doll would you like to play with? why? and Which doll is the worste looking? and the majority of teh children favoured the white doll and discredited the black oneWhen the study was redone, a short period after the black revolotionists of America it seemed that the black children were more ethnocentric towards their own race and that, through the powerful black men, had more self esteem - eventhough they we're only childrenWhy do you think the children at first favoured the white dolls? (could be an obvious answer) Do you think it was down to the US at the time being heavily racsit? - if so how were the children so effected by it when they wouldve been non the wiser about racism, surely?(I do realise this could end up turning into a rascist thread, so try not make it that way, just wanted to form some discussion or something lol)
Jubez Fresco
They thought their race was crappy. 22's Huey Newton and them guys roll along, show people being black is something to be proud of, and then they realised their race is pretty darn good. You're right it was a simple answer. Jubez Fresco
Yeah, but its KIDSSurely they didnt understand or even know bout all that sh*t - How were they able to change so easily?Probably looked at their parents who were holding up their heads, being proud of who they were, buying into the whole black is beautiful movement, rather than making their kids konk their hair and all that other stuff? Being black, atleast in the black community, became accepted. As weird as that sounds
rimplton
because of the world they lived in. if not directly confronted by the situation, everything around them locks into the current social structure and climate.what would happen if you did this to every race nowadays, with dolls of each ethnicity laid out before them?
