Fabregas hopes to stay at Arsenal for life'I will be here for as long as they want me'Mike AdamsonMonday February 18, 2008guardian.co.uk Cesc Fabregas claims he is keen to spend the rest of his career with Arsenal, who he thinks have a good chance of winning the Premier League and Champions League double this season.Speaking in an exclusive interview with CNN, the Spanish international midfielder said he had not entered into discussions with Arsenal about extending his contract past its current expiry date of 2014, but that the only reason he would leave the Emirates would be if he was no longer wanted."I am very happy, everything is going well, I have got friends in the club," Fabregas said. "I like the life and I am comfortable with the fans. If they don't want me here, then of course I would like to go back to Spain. But if the club wants me and the boss thinks I still can give a lot to the club, then I will stay here. I will be here for as long as they want me."Fabregas, who was a trainee with Barcelona when the Gunners signed him in July 2003, said manager Arsène Wenger was one of the main reasons he is so keen to stay. "He has an eye to catch young players that he wants in the future, and that is something special," he said. "I have always been grateful for what he has done for me, what he has done for the club and I feel very lucky to be working under him."Fabregas added that the atmosphere inside Premier League stadiums and the attacking nature of English football were further reasons why he would not want to leave. "Whenever you watch a football game here you can see the passion," he said. "Even if the two lowest teams in the league are playing you can feel the passion. They always try to go forward, even if the game maybe technically is not the best you can feel they go to win. In Spain everything is slower and sometimes it takes 20 minutes to see something happen. But of course technically the Spanish league is very, very good."The 20-year-old was less positive about the Premier League's latest proposal, however. The league announced 10 days ago that it would like to extend the season to 39 games, with an international round in which all 20 clubs would play an extra match in January overseas. Fabregas explained that players are already stretched to the limit by their current schedule."As footballers we play more and more, every three days," he said. "If you have to travel to Hong Kong, what can you do? You will have to do it, but of course from our point of view I don't think this is the best decision."One foreign venture Fabregas is excited about is this week's return of the Champions League. Arsenal host the holders, Milan, on Wednesday, with the return leg at the San Siro a fortnight tomorrow. "We are all looking forward to it because it will be a very difficult game," he said. "Everybody says they are not doing well in the league, but this kind of team can kill you in one second. They have massive players like Kaka and [Andrea] Pirlo - we have to be careful, but I still think we have a good chance."Fabregas is similarly optimistic about Arsenal's hopes of winning the league for the first time since 2004. They are five points clear of Manchester United with 12 matches remaining, and Fabregas believes he and his team-mates have what it takes to last the distance."We have to try to play nice football - not beautiful football, but football that really enables us to win," he said. "The fans believe in us and we are quite confident we can do it, but there is still a long way to go."It seems the same can be said of Fabregas's career at Arsenal. The interview will air on CNN International's 'World Sport' on Tuesday at 9.30pm GMT
