Superstition
Venom the schemes work. When the first stage of the CC was introduced:The number of car journeys has decreased by 34% - that's 70,000 fewer car journeys every single dayVans and trucks are down by 5%The usage of buses has gone up 22%, the usage of bicycles has gone up 28%There's been a 17% rise in average traffic speed, and a 30% drop in the time spent in delays. The amount of time spent travelling less than 10km/h has fallen by a third. And the revenue from the CC and the extra public transport users has increased the provision of buses & trains by 25%The sh*t works better than anyone thought it would. New taxes will never be popular with the people, but the Congestion Charge has been an unequivocal success. And Marlon, what you described is called privatisation. Private companies being awarded government contracts is how the government provides most public services. Do you have any idea how hideously inefficient it would be to have a train network run in-house by the government?

Superstition
Heathrow expansion is nothing to do with Ken, he opposes it in fact. So do all the other mayoral candidates.

Superstition
So why doesnt he DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT THENHe doesn't call the shots over what happens at Heathrow. So he operates in his role as a political leader, & campaigns against it. Do you want him to chain himself to a tree in Sipson?

Do you have any idea how hideously inefficient it would be to have a train network run in-house by the government? Please provide the source for your statistics.Because I will provide ones which counter every single one of them.Please. If you've done your research, you know as well as I do the state TFL is in with its contractors. The public sector as a whole is a joke, but TFL is incredibly inefficient, lax, and not innovative. Contracts are awarded with the largest range of performance targets, so they are easy to meet, and there is little to no competition for private companies to be awarded bids, because the same members of the private companies, are the same members that have little Kenny in their pockets. Guest Seriouss
I think people with big, environmentally unfriendly cars should pay more. It's only fair. But £25 is a bit steep. With rules like this it always makes me think - if EVERYONE just refused to pay, what could they do?
