Download speeds been sick on 2 occasions, maximum speed 800kpsUse a download manager (IDM)

When I try and install a large file (200MB+), my PC just stops responding. Nothing works, not even shutting down, so I have to turn it off at the back. This has happened when I tried to install FEAR, GTA2 (it managed to start working again and install after waiting for 15mins+), and now FM2008. The only way I could install it was by going into safe mode.Can anyone help me figure what the cause could be?
