Its not up to the police to think 'hey wait a minute, the way that guy is dressed means he might be carrying a knife'. The police are not there to stop and search who they like but attend to 999 calls and police the streets. That dont mean harassing people by the way they look but being on patrol making sure crimes aint being committed. We are going down the road to a major police state when people start accepting that it is likely they will get searched when walking in a supposed free country. Its a shame that people feel they can get boyed by the police and let them stop and search them like some potential criminal. You didn't really answer the question? Most of the searchings that had been occuring where because they beleived people to be drug dealers, which I would say is making sure a crime isn't being commited, also, carrying a knife is a crime, so that is making sure a crime isnt being commited.Should they instead follow the person, and wait till he has plunged said knife into someones chest before acting? All the times when I've been searched, the police HAVE been on patrol (van passes by, Im hooded, I look at the van, and look quickly away again)
u really think that looks suspicious enough to warrant a search?
