Fulham have signed Danny Murphy from Tottenham on a year-long loan deal. The former England midfielder has not figured at White Hart Lane since January and a move to Fulham could re-ignite a career which has stalled in recent years. Reflecting on the capture of Murphy, Fulham manager Lawrie Sanchez was clearly pleased to have signed the playmaker. "Danny Murphy is a proven England international player with great vision, experience and ability," Sanchez said. "He can split the defence with a single pass and can score goals so I'm delighted he's chosen to come to Fulham at this stage in his career. "It's been a busy last couple of days with many deals being done but hopefully this concludes our business for the window and we can now concentrate on winning football matches and climbing the table."

Tottenham have reiterated their desire for Jermain Defoe to sign a new deal at the club. Sporting director Damien Comolli has urged the Spurs striker to follow the lead of Jermaine Jenas, who has signed on until 2012, and show his commitment to Tottenham. Defoe has struggled to secure first-team football at White Hart Lane in the wake of the impressive strike partnership of Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane, but Comolli insists the England forward has a future at the club. "As a club we like players who commit to a long future and that is what Jenas has done," Comolli told The Sun. "We see Defoe as a big part of our future, we want him to commit." Comolli has also continued to deny rumours of a rift between himself and under-fire manager Martin Jol. "It is not a question I want to answer," Comolli added. "I don't think it's a relevant question."
