If someone could help, id appreciate it

This all happened last year, but I couldnt be f*cked to change it. Basically, Had Windows XP, downloaded Vista Premium (or so I thought) successfully. Only problem is, I restarted the lappy but the skin wasnt the see through Premium skin, it was the Basic skin. So about 8 months ago I saw one of those BricoPacks, and it had the Vista Premium skin, so I thought id install that, on top of the existing Vista I had. Did so, but then when I rebooted, it loads the f*ck*ng Windows 98 skin, but still has the Vista Sidedock and desktop icons. So now, everytime I restart I have to manually change the theme to the Vista theme from the control panel, and even when I do that it only loads the Vista Basic one. BTW, I downloaded the Vista but I have since found product keys and such so it works fine, and on the system setting and that, it says im running Vista Premium. Can anyone help me in trying to ensure that whenever I load up the lappy, it automatically loads with the Vista Premium skin, or if not at least the Vista Basic. Its highly inconvieniant and its pissing me off now. Cheers.

if ur lappy is old, vista might be doing something to prevent the new skin from loadin because it hogs up memory, so if ur in VISTA right click on my computer > properties > in the bottom left of the left hand pane there should be 'performance' click on that > and then click on adjust visual effects which is listed in the pane on the left side > now once inside make sure the boxs are all ticked including the one 'use visual styles on windows and buttons'as for the brico pack not loadin...i duno maybe you might need to just format ur hard drive and start fresh with just vista, or at least install again deleteing the windows folder first

Nar, lappys cool, should be able to handle it. I done what you said and in the Performance Options box, all the boxes are ticked. Above that though, theres three options1) Let Windows choose what best for my computer2) Adjust for best appearance3) '' '' '' performanceIts currently on the first one, would changing it to the second one sove the problem do you think?

Back up and Reload...Simple thing... Way to many "I downloaded this and that"So a format and reload is the simplest answer.. Especially with Vista SP1 being available now..If your laptop doesnt have a good graphics card then chances of it supporting Windows Aero.. would quite slim.

everything you want to keep put it on a external hard drive or DVD etcthen wipe your computer of EVERTHING (with partition magic)then load windows back on it

Oh ok, ill get to doing that when I get a spare few DVDs. Safe for the help everyone.

Backup your data... All the sh*t that u wanna keep..Reload Windows or whatever operating system.Oh and dont use no DODGY download..If your going to download it.. At least make it from a reputable source...
