na they cant get the debt collectors.

before a debt collector can come to ur house it needs to go through court, if they cant show the money has come out of their account then theres no debt. If they do try send it to court u can make representation and based on what u said the judge would throw it out.

The easiest option probably would be to get another cheque, cash it and send the rest back, but if u wanna make a stand let them take it to court u have nothing to worry about.
