Plan To Build Mosque Near Ground Zero

10 posts in this topic

In an attempt which is being hoped would bridge the cultural divide, an initiative is being undertaken to build a mosque close to the Ground Zero where the twin towers of World Trade Center once stood. Despite the fact that many observers feel that the initiative might play a pivotal role in reducing the cultural divide, it has sparked a controversy as many families who lost there near and dear ones in the 9/11 attacks have expressed their opposition to the proposal.

According to reports, two Muslim groups have undertaken the venture to establish a mosque as well as a cultural center in lower Manhattan with the initiative earning the support of a number of noted community leaders. The project is likely to turn into reality with the cost of a whopping $100 million with the center being projected to turn into a site of mainstream Islam as well as a venue to counter the radicalism that is associated with the religion. Although the project has gained endorsements from various quarters, the relatives of the victims of the 9/11 attack has not taken the venture in a good way as it would be build very close to the area where they lost their near and dear ones. The preliminary plan of the project, which has been named Cordoba House, was announced last Wednesday.

The project has been undertaken as a joint collaboration by the American Society for Muslim Advancement and the Cordoba Initiative, which are Muslim organizations that work in the area of enriching the relationship of the followers of the religion.

complete gas

i was at ground zero on Saturday

they have already released the plans for whats gonna be on the site and erected a centre dedicated to the new construction which is taking place on the site. the reason its taken so long to start building there is because of the sensitivity regarding ground zero.

the plan looked pretty nice, especially in such a commercial area which is full of sky scrapers etc.

its a big park with two huge waterfeatures which look like waterfalls/wells. they are each on the exact site where the towers used to stand.

there is no way enough room to build a mosque there, were talking about the financial district of manhattan, if anyones been they know how congested it is already.
