Michael Dawson continued his Tottenham return with a run-out for the club's reserves, which looks even more important with talk Ledley King could be out of action until November. Dawson made his first Premier League appearance of the season in Saturday's disappointing 3-3 draw with Fulham after coming on a late substitute. However, with the former Nottingham Forest defender lacking match practice, he featured for over an hour against Birmingham's reserves on Monday. With fresh reports hinting England international King's recovery from a knee injury could be longer than expected, Dawson's return provides a much-needed boost for under pressure Martin Jol. "It has been a long time coming," Dawson told the club's official website. "It is just good to be back playing football. "The ankle was fine. The main aim was to get a bit of match fitness and sharpness. You can train as much as you want, but there is nothing like playing games."
Will be starting against Arsenal, f*ck Rocha

Martin Jol concedes his plans to get his Tottenham Hotspur squad in peak condition have been hampered by the international break. A large chunk of Spurs' squad is on international duty for the best part of a fortnight, much to the disappointment of Jol. After a frustrating start to the new Premier League season, the Spurs boss is keen for an extended opportunity to work with his players. The Dutchman admits he has no option but to accept the recess, and hopes his players return free from injury. Pain"Any manager will tell you that they don't like it - and I certainly feel that way," said Jol. "You don't see your players and they could get injured. "They all want to play for their countries, I understand that and I would never stand in their way. On the other hand, sometimes the breaks can be a pain and affect your planning. "We had the first six weeks with pre-season and in the second six you want to overload your players to make them fitter and fitter. "Last year it certainly came off because we could peak all the time, but if they are gone for over a week it makes it much more difficult. You must hope for the best that they all come back without any injuries."

Tottenham midfielder Adel Taarabt has set his sights on finishing in the top four of the Premier League. Spurs have already lost three times this season and their lowly position in the table has put pressure on manager Martin Jol. But Taarabt is still confident of a successful campaign and predicts there could be UEFA Champions League football at White Hart Lane next term. "It is difficult because Tottenham want to play in the Champions League next season," the Frenchman told Sky Sports News. "I think it is possible to finish in the top four teams this season." Jol supportTaarabt has also backed beleaguered boss Jol to turn the club's fortunes around. "I'm happy working with Martin. The press are a problem but I have no problem." Asked whether all the players were behind Jol, the 18-year-old added: "I think so, yes."
