D'angelo got nabbed at the end of Season 1 with the dope. Stringer was always sceptical about D'angelos ability to hold it up in pen, and when he agreed to testify against the whole Barksdale crew, it took his mum pressuring him to make him change his mind and take the 20 year sentence. D'angelo said fine, I'll keep my head down and serve my time. But he was shunning Avon inside, and telling everyone in the crew to leave him alone, so Stringer felt he was getting more & more distant. 20 years is a long sentence and at any time D'angelo could flip again, and take down the whole organisation. Avon said there was no way he would turn on them, since he's family member and is loyal, etc. But Stringer never fully trusted him, and eventually had the dude choke him to death, and make it look like suicide.
