Also, people know that he sold out City of Manchester stadium in half an hour right? At the end of the day, every sport is about money. If every sport could do what boxing does they would. If you put bums on seats then thats whats gonna be done. Other sports have fixture lists, boxing doesnt.Prem teams dont go on tours in Asia and USA to tune up their skills, do they?

Some sports have limits, look at the uproar when the FA proposed the 39th game and the idea got deaded swiftly. It's this reward/risk analysis mentality thats messing up boxing's credibility.

drop the fight a weight, put at least one title on the line and still they couldn't sell this fight to me. OR the de la hoya/mayweather fight. Mayweather has nothing to prove and would dispatch of cotto

But that would mess up the dynamics of the sport. That extra game would mess up. Boxing is controlled by Promoters at the end of the day who want money. There isnt one governing body that regulated fights unless you have a belt. Even then, if your a big fighter you can dictate. When you become a big fighter you dont need belts.Being that there isnt any real control, there cant be limited. You have a point about it could mess up the credibility, but so long as there are enough big fights who cares? Look at the interest that Mayweather and Hatton generated the first time. No other sport in the world can command that interest for two guys and sell that many pay-per-views, NONE

They dont even need a belt, who cares? As long as the fight goes ahead, it'll be big!

not to boxing fans, but the english fans will buy into it een more if they have a chance of seeing a world champion be crowned. The undfeated tags gone and maybe also the best pound for pound so i think a title would need to be on the line even if its hattons.

this is waste. boxing is getting quite crap now with these novelty entertainment matches, all these 'respect' bouts are lame. man was trashed left n centre.. let it go. so what if hatton wins..then in 2010 there will be another superduper rematch?? contender fights, title fights, the odd non title 'respect' fight then a rematch if there was real controversy or so close. the end.

Apart from the 4th and the end Mayweather wasnt controlling the fight because there wasnt much happening. When Mayweather said "Hol' up, this guys from Manc and lives in a pub" and stepped up there was a differenceHow can people say boxings a joke when this month alone Tarver is facing Woods and Hopkins-Calzaghe ah gwarn? How many fights of late have been one-sided and for the money before the fight happened? DLH v Mayweather was a very close fight and I think DLH has cause to believe he won it so that is not allowed. Them sweeping statements could have been made in 2000, not so much now
