What you doing at uni Spidey?I'd always been told Imperial was dead socially but you go to a SICK uni, think of the later benefits and stick it out.
im doin aeronautical engineering.put it this way, i got told it was gonna be dead socially and expected people to just be over worked or sumin...but its not dat, its the people themselves more so lol. it was WORSE than i expected tbh.but ye wot u said is the ONLY thing keepin me going....just workin to make it official and to have that degree and then good f*ckin bye.im bein a bit cynical today cos it was a bad day, but ye i didnt exagerate anything. the amount of times ive said in my head "I HATE THIS f*ckIN PLACE" is shocking.

Jeez, Imperial sounds sh*t, glad I never applied, no one seemed to be on a social tip when I went to the open day.
trust.i need to hit up these open days with a sign sayin "normal people here" and tell em why they shudnt come tbh LMFAO.its a sacrifice at the end of the day for the degree, and if ur willing to do it then at least u should be informed how bad its gonna be lol.im nt one to discriminate but i dnt no how to put this in any other way....the way ive got geeks complaining to me of how socially sh*t and geeked out it is, is shocking. theres like sum masssssssive spectrum of geekyness with geeks on all kind of levels, from "a little smart, bit reserved and looking nerdy" all the way to "full blown einstien brain, spasticated looking and socially retarded".never knew geekyness went that deep lol.that sounds a bit too cynical still. der are a minority of normal people who some how survive lol.

Boy, there's the catch 22 situation. Go to a uni not as high in the uni league table and generally you have a far greater social side with events and people with possibly a lower quality of education, or go to a higher league uni, get a better quality of education and lose out on the social aspect.Congrats on getting into Imperial though, it's no easy task. Try to make the most of it.

safe man.ye im on the making the most of it campaign. like i said der a few normal people and more normal-ish heads.ive got a group of friends at uni that are orite and on a good time so its not a complete loss even if it aint sum 24/7 big group rave ting. just gotta get them to let loose even more lol.i think im used to bein the conservative-ish person in the group jammin wid more wilder people, so to be surrounded with lots of people who are more reserved than me requires me to switch it up a bit.

Oh. My bad fam. That Tuppatopbreh annoys me. Always ready to come in education topics to inform us he goes to a top 5 uni, he does a course that is supposedly harder than everyone elses, and is just like supersmart and anyone who doesn't go to a top 10/20 uni should stay at home.

I went through a lot of what you did Spiderman. I don't have many words of wisdom coz you seem fully-aware of what you're dealing with. I feel your pain about the disorganised structures though. Each department assumes that THEIR work is the most important, and the ONLY work you have to do. So then, sh*t piles up from four different directions very quickly. Tutors can sometimes be understanding if you explain your situation to them, and they might give you some deadline leeway so you can stagger your workload. And it's a social minus for the uni to be flooded with uber-geeks, but what I realised very late was that you can learn a lot from them. At LSE they were virtually all international students, and they have a more realistic conception of what the global labour market is like. There are litereally millions of top-notch, exceedingly-motivated graduates being churned out in China and India every year, and with the world getting flatter, they are coming for the western jobs in engineering, medicine, finance. A lot of English students have a mentality of entitlement, they want to be able to limp through uni and get a cushy job afterwards. The international geeks know that ain't happening - they WANT and NEED to be the best, because where they're from, it won't be enough to be average. And they know how lucky they are to get their opportunity, so won't give less than 110%. Their level of motivation is off the charts, it was threatening/humbling/inspiring. Too many Brits don't comprehend the tidal wave of competition that's heading their way.And Bladerunner is Gray Fox imo, you can usually clock him because his posts are infused with the explicit disdain toward everybody on the board, as if he's here involuntarily: "I can't believe I'm being forced to read this sh*t, and engage with you termite niggers" iJoke somewhat

yea i DEFINATELY see that at my uni.the international students are overly determined and motivated and it is scarey cos were not used to that mentality, which sumtimes comes off as a bit inhuman lol.but i do rate them for their work ethic and for trying so much, but a lot of them are also very very naturally gifted which is how they got to where they are, so they should take that with a pinch of salt. the pressure is double so wen u got english students who are overally serious about work aswell so its almost like the competition drives them to be so serious. like i said i rate the drive and it definately motivates u to have such driven ppl around you, but i just wish they would not take it so seriously sometimes and master the are of BALANCE a bit better lol.its good for education i suppose, but it just kills wotever social life there is if you have this populus of students just bein too serious and going back and forth to see who can work the most hours in the day, etc etc...they need to lighten up really.

Well I'm at a "top" uni and I agree 100% with what Spiderman said, except that he didn't go far enough, especially about the normal people thing. And the way these people can't go out unless something is organised for them, nobody does anything unless it's a uni night out.

lol turss man shits depressing.the lack of normality is shocking. ders so many little things that contribute, id be here all day if i went over every little thing that makes the people at these uni's sh*t. if you know you know.spent today kind of reflecting on my rant and i think when i reach the end of the tunnel this ill probably look back and laugh. its a sacrifice and it does burn at the time, but it will definately be worth it especially when every tom, d*ck and harry is goin uni these days.my mates at different uni's having a 24/7 doss and rave may laugh at me now for a few years but ive got a whole lifetime of laughing at the difference between our bank balances to come.i shud proper rant and parade bout it just like they did bout uni lol. proper rub it in.

Margaret Thatcher +Socialism/Marxists (Blairites & Brownites)+Reforms in education (dumbing ourselves down)+Rights =Our economic decline and upcoming years of depreciation. We should have kept duty on goods; invested in our own development and focused on protecting Britain first.
