One little slip wasn't as costly.I havent checked it over but I reckon that the margians between the teams winning the league are closer now than they were back then.edit; checked 3 random seasons.in 1993-94 - 21 point difference between 1st and 4th - united winning the title by 8 points (only one team looking like winning it in the run in)in 1997-98 - 15 point difference between 1st and 4th. (only two teams that could win it in the run in)in 2007-08 - 11 point difference between 1st and 4th, 4 points between 1st and 3rd. HangTheDJ Posted September 4, 2008 Report Share Posted September 4, 2008 but imo thats the reason as to why it wasnt as competitive at the topright now you have three teams who have experience of winning it, back then you only had fergie until wenger came in.of the four teams now you have two seasoned, extremely experienced sides, one who have a manager whos won it 3/4 times and other top domestic honours and a fourth team trying to close the gap with a manager who has won it abroad and things in europe.teams full of experienced winnersback then it was united and then a different challenger every season who just wernt experienced enough to get the job done (until blackburn), wether it be villa, norwich, newcastle all fell off towards the end. How people assume that makes the league more competitive is beggers belief IMO. How many teams are expected to "park the bus" against the top 4 now? That never use to happen as much back in the day, everyone expected to take points of everyone... Now? Meh, and to be honest thats why the top 4 aint changing anytime soon. Fact is both managers are unsackable, I think that alone speaks volumes for both their achievements.I just dont buy into the notion that the league is more competitive now.
