this isn't a "Wheres my share of the Gold" topicThinking about a scene from American Gangsters, where someone says to Frank Lucas that the Mafia will testify against him, not only because they don't like him, but what hes doing shows "Progress", i started looking for industry's where you can say you know a black person is running it, and i couldn't find one. I only know Clothing and Music company's where you can say yh they are doing good. But when it comes to ones likeBanks, Airlines, Technology company's, Oil/Enery, Car Manufacturers, Major News and TV Company's i aint seen any names yet. biggrin.gif I don't want to know about Oprah and BET lolWill we ever see a big industry that we run? Till it gets to the point where we have a decent stereotype like the Jews and them controlling all media company's and being deep into their money?p.s. the word black can go for other races to but im no nothing about your people

IMO there's a possibility it's changing for the better. there were nt this many black people at uni doing serious courses 20 years ago or just generally in jobs that didnt involve sweeping floors or security type work. true say theres a lotta waste. but theres a lot more positive intellignet heads as well.

honestly the future looks bleak for the black race...I don't see how the younger generation can change anything 20 to 30 years to come, if anything they'll perform worse.we'll have less black leaders that are not involved in the entertainment industry.
Sad, but very likely...
Do not believe the hype.Just because a few black people are underachieving in say London or what have you, does not mean there are not others elsewhere really trying hard. One black guy in my sociology class, for example, got a minimum of A in all his GCSEs and all A's in his AS levels. he is predicted A's in all his A2's and is applying for politics at oxford. He will go far.

Theres a lot more black youth doing good than are given credit for.I know one boy, 1st year law student at my uni, straight A's at A level, has won numerous prizes for being such an achiever etc... And he's from an inner city borough.Devout Christian yet he's so much fun, I have so much respect and admiration for him. Most people think the black kids doing good for themselves are silver spooners. Not always.

Believe the hypeHe could be the smartest person in the world, have the best possible grades and come from a stable enviromentbut its the views of other people that would need to change before one can progressYeah he might get a good job, earn 60k a year but that has nothing to do with the original question

what you need to ask yourself is how far you have looked before asking this questions. some of you talk like you expect channel U or mtv base to announce things like this or maybe for it to be discussed on an episode of heroes. what research have you done that ended up with no names? because there are black run/owned or managed by blacks in all those industries that you mentioned. if you dont look you wont find. and typing in "black man who runs a car company" into google may also not help. an example, michael prest runs a $2billion private oil refinery business that scans Nigeria, US, and Brasil. richard parsons will be until the end of the year, CEO of Time Warnerthe head of Development at GM is black..cant remember his name.the head of the UK's largest equity fund is blackthe head of coca cola marketing wordlwide is black, and british and 37

Seeing education as a priority from day one would help. Not getting suckered into the hype of being a street kid and all the underground sh*t.I used to be 2 years ahead of my year when i was around 12. But having certain friends and bullshit happening knocks us all down a peg at some point. And having parents that are strong and not effected by other black peoples stupidity. Knowing what you want, and having people around who will make sure you dont mess yourself up.GAMBIT, this isnt about saying were being held back, im saying where the hell are we!

you will hardly find a collective list like this just by searching, even when they talk about black role models, the media wont collate such peoplemost of the time you may have to have something to do with that industry to know who is who, or you pick them up in stuff like black enterprisethis goes back to the whole "why is there a black only" magazine talk... this is one of the reasons why.
