Never read the books but i would find it hard to believe the movie was anything less than the novel considering Mario Puzo was also involved with making the movies.

A film's iconic status shoudn't affect whether or not it is a better film than something else. I think people are letting the hype of a film cloud their judgement. Because they've been told the film is good left, right and centre, they are going to leave it thinking the film is good.And I guess it depends what you watch teh movie hoping to see. Action and rawness, Scarface hands down. Depth and suspense and captivation, Carlito's Way hands down.Overall, I would prefer Carlito's Way because I would rather numerous aspects rather than a single one.Ans Supastation that analysis was sick. It's true, you do want Carlito to get away and live happily ever after. And you can feel it for him, the bit where he f*cks up and realises that he is in some sh*t.

I can't agree with that at all... The Godfather is an example of acting being SO uniformly amazing, subtle and proficient.... that the nuances, motivations and transformations of each of the characters is captured PERFECTLY, and in such depthObviously the characters are fleshed-out more fully in the novel: in a film you can't spend several pages explicitly spelling-out the internal thoughts of a certain person, and you can't lay out a character's history in such intricate detail. But their personalities, their conflicts and tribulations are captured with brilliance and flair; a heap of ELITE actors using the best of their abilities, portraying the full picture of each character, on the helpful vehicle of probably the best script ever. And of course the film doesn't stick to the book page-for-page; there are whole chunks which the movie doesn't even try to approach. But the story is carried, and carried masterfully - plus it's so much more vivid and captivating with the iconic imagery, the direction, the sets, the cinematography, the music. I love the book and love the film, they are both works of genius, just presented in different ways

all of which make it one of the best films ever made.im a bit sad and ive seen all 3 about 25 times, watched it with the directors commentary on, it goes into some nice details and alot about the process of making the film, and spells out what is happening if you cant pick it up yourself

im saying the iconic status was justified,like taxi driver or the godfather.scarface and carlitos theyre both great and diffrent films and i guess ultimately its a case of personal prefrence but i wud say that not only is scarface a cinematic masterpiece aesthetically,but the dialogue and characters performances is faultless,why it has been parodied and refrenced so much.i think maybe there is a anti hype surrounding scarface because its such a bait popular film,or cos the protagonist is less likeable but im saying its with good reason the film is so iconic,and the fact there is action in a film does not necessarily ditract from its ability to be profound,or from having fully fledged characters etc. scarface is to immense for yr face but i guess its down to personal preference end of the day
