I would have ratted out the person still. Allow a murderer walking free.

somtimes its best not to say a word, the consequences could come back to haunt you if it was ever revealed that you were infact the person who informed the police with the name.

I believe it is you that is not getting it. Snitching is when a criminal grasses on another criminal. That's why they say informer's for dead.There is no dishonour in a mother testifying against her son's killer if she saw him. There is dishonour in her son's gang testifying if they were shooting at the killer just the day before that.
