I got away with it. Just keep the cleaner safe. Even when it was random inspection.My door was wide open and my bredrins were with me bussin joke.About 5 cleaners try run in the room like its a stick up, I threw a coat over the grill but they just plainfaced my fridge I think their looking for either drugs or actual illegal conduct they dont care about the other stuff unless you burn down sutttin.

Just because Halls are catered doesn't mean the accomadation will be nice. At my uni, the catered halls are the shittest. Seriously, the amout of people I know that applied for another residence after a few weeks of the catered halls is immense. I reckon the costs they use to provide food all the time will be taken away from your living luxury.

yeh at southampton when i went open day the catered halls were the worst ugliest ones because they are from back in the day when it was ridiculous to have ur own bathroom and sh*talso about tv licence, how do u get caught with a USB stick tuner, because surely whenever u finish watching it u can just get the stick and hide it somewhere right? can any uni heads clarify this or say if u know anyone whos been caught because im thinkin of doin this still and dont want to risk the 1 grand fine.

You won't get caught without a TV license even if you have a TV (as opposed to this USB stick thing). They'll give you a warning at most, IF they check.

And do you really think you are going to miss TV? The amount of bullshit they put on channels 1 to 5, I wouldn't even be concerned with not watching TV. It's not like you have Sky Digital and have to worry about it. I had a TV in my room, but only to watch DVDs and play playstation, but that was only because I was paranoid about TV Licensing. They even left notes in everyone's kitchen saying TV Licensing officers are coming to the Halls of esidence I was, and are doing door to door searches and will be fining people. Even though I didn't watch TV, I was paranoid they were going to chat sh*t, so I proper was frantically looking for someone I could leave the TV. Only friends house I could was a distance away. And the reason I was panicking, was because it was during a study week, and I was in London the whole time. In the end, I left the TV because I couldn't be bothered to carry it, and they left some notes in our kitchen explaining the grounds for needing a TV license, and seeing as none of it applied to me, I wasn't concerned.I come back after study week, and ask what TV License was saying, and evryone I asked said they didn't come around. Now, I wonder how much oney they made off of that stunt?

Basically, if they have recorded TV signals coming from your yard, then they will say that's enough to give you a warning, or prosecute, I'm not sure how strict they are. People at my uni sometimes got warnings, and then my friend's cousin told me how his mum doesn't watch TV, but watched it for an hour to see her church on TV, then put away the TV. A few days later, TV License come to the door, asking her if she has been watching TV, to which she was honest and said only for an hour to watch her church on TV. They still took her to court apparently even though she was honest and only watched for an hour. Needless to say, my friend's cousin tucked him in and got in trouble with the police himself. But I think that's an extreeme situation. If you are in halls, it will be even harder for them locate. So even if you receive a letter, don't worry too much until other letters come or someone is knocking at your door. Chances are they are sending it to your flat, but recorded the signals from an upstairs flat.
