Milligan set to join GunnersPeter Kogoy | May 02, 2008 http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/st ... 60,00.htmlOLYROO captain Mark Milligan is poised to join English Premier League club Arsenal after impressing manager Arsene Wegner in a secret trial. Speaking on Total Football on Fox Sports last night, Milligan confirmed he was poised to sign with the Gunners and quit Sydney FC subject to obtaining a British work permit. An Arsenal source said that Wenger saw Milligan as a potential straight replacement for French international Matthieu Flamini, who is bound for AC Milan next season. But Milligan's decision to head to the UK in a bid to secure his footballing future has not impressed his Olympics coach Graham Arnold, who was expecting him to join his Beijing-bound team-mates in camp in Townsville, North Queensland. Milligan was the subject of transfer talks at the start of the last A-League season when his manager Craig Nettlebeck had the dashing young left back ready to sign with then newly promoted French club Metz. But negotiations broke down when Sydney FC management refused the rising star's clearance to France.Someone give me Wengers address cos im gonna go and knock some sense into the penny pinching bastard.

TAKEN FROM ANOTHER FORUM.Mark Milligan to Arsenal? Direct replacement for Flamini? This has got to be a wind up surely? I live in Australia and watch our A-League religiously, and I can honestly say (and DesignerX will probably back me up), that Milligan is not Arsenal quality. He is a capable player, but not at Arsenal level. I may be slightly biased as he does play for my teams most fierce rival (Sydney FC) but I just don't think he is that good.He is the captain of our U23 team (the Olyroos), but might now miss the Olympics because he failed to report for a training camp in Australia this week and didn't inform any team members. Our coach is said to be privately furious with him.He did, however, play brilliantly for the Olyroos during their Olympic qualification and was a rock at the back (mostly played CB) alongside another young Aussie star Adrian Leijer who is now at Fulham. He has played for Australia a handful of times and was a standout at last years Asian Cup, where he put in exceptional performances when our senior brigade failed badly. Then last season at Sydney FC he had a shocker, that I am sure even he will admit. Made too many basic errors that cost his team badly. He is also, IMO, a bit of a long ball merchant. A lot of the times when I watched him (for both Sydney FC and the Olyroos), he would get the ball and play a long diagonal ball that 8/10 wouldn't result in anything. That may be down to the coaching at Sydney FC and Olyroos but it's something I don't like in his game as he has the ability to be a pretty good ball player, but I have massive, massive doubts that he could handle Arsenal's possession Football. He could probably play in the Premier League, but not at a club like Arsenal. IMO he'd be more suited to a mid-lower league team. The best way I can think to describe him is a young Lucas Neill.I also wouldn't pay any attention to the Sydney FC website, our official websites here are terrible and are controlled by the governing body (FFA). They never have anything about transfer speculation. You are better off looking at the Unofficial websites. This is the Sydney FC fans website..http://sfcu.com.au/index.php?option=com ... pic=8713.0And the Melbourne Victory fans website (this one starts out as a thread about him missing the training camp and then turns into the 'Milligan to Arsenal' thread)...http://www.melbournevictory.net/forum/s ... hp?t=45254They are probably the two best websites if you are looking for more information on him.
