Well, the word 'transcend' is relative/subjective...For example, I might cite Ceelo, who IMO, transcended Hip-Hop BEFORE Gnarls Barkley with the album 'Ceelo Green, The Soul Machine' (which was a good album BTW)...You might think he's been 'trying new things'...

I've been a fan of 'Ye from the genesis myself, but it that whole ''1st artist to transcend Hip-Hop' statement that I thought was a bit inaccurate.Like I said, I feel there have been other artists who have done the same already, yet because of 'Ye's status, it's bound to be publicised & subsequently championed more...
