A lot of comment has been made on the lack of talent that comes through our youth scheme. King was the last successful player I can think off, breaking through in May 1999! Barnard has played a couple of games as sub, but with Bent's arrival and Pekhart at the Lane (who played in the U20 World Cup Finals), I can't see him getting many games.Add to that the rumours that Chimbonda could be off for 12 million pounds leaving us exposed at right back and everyone is asking - If we sell him for 12 million who do we buy as cover or should? Who do we play Stalteri or Y-P Lee?But what about Ifil?He made his debut against Liverpool on the first day of the 2004-05 season when he was only 17(!) and he was quality. He played well in the other couple of games that season as well. He's small but showed great composure on the ball, was good at getting forward and I thought better than Carr and Kelly. He also represented England U20 at 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship. He was then shipped out on loan but he signed a new deal at the club only 7 months ago in Nov '06.He's only 19 and highly rated within the corridors of White Hart Lane and is tipped for a big future in the game. Jol's said it himself - "I wanted him to extend his contract because I think he is a terrific player,"Do we really give our players coming through the ranks enough of a chance? I'd like to see Ifil play more this season for sure.
