Klinnsman, Van Basten, Hughes and Rijkaard all went straight into international management and did well.If we get an easy-ish group for the WC qualifiers I see no reason why Shearer shouldnt be given a chance if we can't get Mourinho/Capello.You don't always need a master tactician at international level, just someone who knows how to build a team.And you can only learn how to do that with experience, which Shearer has in abundance.But, he would not be my first choice.

The main criticism of Sven was his inability to make use of the friendlies and bleed players into the set up, he always stuck with the midfield that didnt work of Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard and Beckham, until scholes retired.He made friendlies into a joke, by playing his strongest XI first half then bringing them all off for a whole new team.McClaren gave new players a chance. Sven didn't.
