Berbatov remains his first choice but the offer of £6m, Louis Saha and Wes Brown falls well short of the valuation Spurs have placed on the striker. While Tottenham boss Juande Ramos might want £1m-rated Brown, he is not prepared to pay the £60,000-a-week wages the central defender is thought to be seeking. Brown wants a bumper pay-day as he becomes a free agent in the summer, and is also interesting Newcastle. SEARCH FOOTBALL for: Ramos would want enough money to replace Berbatov with another world-class frontman and still have the cash to bolster his midfield and defence. But injury-prone Saha is not thought to be on the Spaniardâs radar. Ramos would be tempted by £10m plus Portuguese winger Nani, but Ferguson is unlikely to sanction such a deal. United need reliable cover for main strikers Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez and, despite being 36, Larsson â the leading scorer in the UEFA Cup this season â has shown he still retains the fitness and quality that made him one of the most respected strikers in Europe. His contract with home-town club Helsingborgs has run out and he is understood to be looking for a final hurrah in England â or in Scotland where he was a huge favourite with Celtic. Larsson scored three goals in 13 appearances after joining United on January 1. But he rejected pleas to stay to the end of the season in order to return home for the start of the Swedish campaign. This time Ferguson would hope to keep him until May, although the striker would not be eligible to play in the Champions League. Berbatovâs agent, Emil Dantchev, met Spurs sporting director Damien Comolli last month to discuss his clientâs future, and the pair agreed the Bulgarian would assess his position at the end of the season. Last night Dantchev claimed he had heard nothing more from Spurs or United, but refused to rule out a January move. âI have not been in touch with anybody about Dimitar and, when you speak to me at this very moment, there is no reason he will not be staying at Tottenham,â he said. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has said: âThe summer is a long way off and a lot can happen between now and then. No one person is bigger than the club.â Regardless of Berbatovâs situation, Spurs are pursuing Ajax left-back Urby Emanuelson. Gareth Bale is out until March with a foot injury and right-footed Young-Pyo Lee has been filling in. Holland international Emanuelson has been linked with Arsenal and Roma. Spurs, meanwhile, have appealed overDidier Zokoraâs red card at Manchester City on Tuesday and will hear the FAâs decision today.
