Same.@ The people saying they don't have to show unrequited respect to their parents if they don't feel they get the same...let me ask you this:Who has bathed you since you were born, who has fed you, put a roof over your head, argued with your teachers when they tried holding you back in school (or argued when you got in trouble/suspended), fought your corner in nearly everything, clothed you, taken the stupid mood swings you all had through your teen years, spent unbelievable amounts of money on you gotten, you that toy you really wanted as a kid..ETC.I find the people who are most ready to talk back and see themselves on the SAME LEVEL as their parents (when its clearly not the case), are those who are most disrespectful and immature.I never appreciated my parents (my dad especially) until I was much older. Once I had experienced a fraction of what he had, my respect for him went through the roof.

I think that happens when people dont see their parents as smart them for whatever reason (mainly 'cause certain parents dont keep up with the times or came over here ignorant)But hey, maybe I'm talking like this 'cause my parents have done a fine job and not done anything to make me lose respect for them no matter how old fashioned there thoughts are

Believe my family has its share of arguments and disagreements.I have only one brother, of which I havent talked to for years.I havent seen my father in 4 years.I have a sketchy at best relationship with my mother.Certain times I had hell at home from them, which was the contributing factor to why I moved out at 17.I disagree with a large majority of what my parents did, and as a result there is no relationship.That does not stop me from having immense respect, even though I don't follow the same school of thought as them. I didnt always feel this way - it took years for me to see that despite what happened, noone teaches you how to be a parent.And at your point about being quick to judge others. Sekkle. I wasnt. You are right in some respects but we are all mature enough (I hope) to recognise which things are menial both in hindsight and in the moment and as such not deserving of physicallity on your part. If either of my parents evers proceeded to lay their hands on me in an excessive manner let it be known I would strike back.Even though I love my mum and dad, I have a bad relationship with mum. I am too old now for disciplining but even she (aswell as my father) knew when I was younger that if they physically took it too far, I would respond in turn.It ain't about allowing yourself to be a punching bag just because your parents are the ones delivering the blows, if you feel you can and MUST defend yourself then I feel it is warranted.
