Defoe Holds Talks With Aston Villa Jermain Defoe has met with Aston Villa officials to discuss a move, but any transfer could be thwarted by Tottenham's asking price, according to a report. The England international striker was told by coach Juande Ramos that he could leave White Hart Lane if he chose to earlier this month.Villa manager Martin O'Neill has been a long-time admirer of Defoe and the Birmingham Post state that the pair met this week to discuss a transfer."Jermain has been to talk to Villa. The problem now is negotiating a fee and that may prove to be the sticking point," the report quoted an unnamed source as saying.Defoe has been quoted as saying that he was prepared to stay at Tottenham and earn a place in the team, but the recent speculation about the club trying to sign a new striker may have changed his mind.Tottenham are believed to want around £10m for the former West Ham United goalscorer and that may scupper Villa's plans as they have more than one target in the winter transfer window.Transfer talk has surrounded Defoe since he has refused to sign a new contract with the north London club, but hopes are still high that he will stay after he changed his agent.O'Neill is building a strong squad of young English player at Villa, just Tottenham appear to be doing, and has already signed Nigel Reo-Coker, Ashley Young and Curtis Davies.A Villa spokesman told the Birmingham Post that he would not confirm or deny that talks had been held with Defoe.

Don't see the point in selling Defoe and buying another striker with a similar 1 in 2 striker rate.Defoe 51% career goal ratio.Fred 54%.

maybe it's becose fred can actually contribute something to build up play and give them another dimension.defoe is just some greedy striker. he's good but not what spurs need imo.
Spot on.Add to that he is a party boy who arrives to training still hungover and hides that slag of his in the back of his car so he can get right on it again once he finishes.Football is not the biggest thing in his life. Thats why he needs to f*ck off.

Probably not going now.....Lyon striker Fred insists he wants to stay with the six-time French champions. The Brazilian forward has been the subject of on-going speculation and had looked certain to move away from Stade Gerland. Paris St Germain, Tottenham, Portsmouth and Middlesbrough had all been suggested as possible destinations for Fred. But after PSG dropped their interest in the striker, Fred announced that he wanted to stay and fight for his place in Alain Perrin's side.

If this happens, Defoe best be ready to turn his career around....I hope Nige + Barry have a sit down talk with him to make sure his heads right, and he wants to realise his potential.I'm more excited about the prospect of Danielle Lloyd living in Birmingham.

lolDefoe would be sick at Villa but whats happening with Carew and Agbonlahor??
Exactly.Gabby has started every single competitive game since MON has been in charge. Which is a very impressive stat. What happens to him? Does he go from first on the teamsheet to coming off the bench?Or does he go to the right side... where he is sh*t.Itll be very interesting...

this transfer been confirmed then? Defoes a good striker but he needs supply. Agbonlahor can amke his openings and so can Carew to a degree so it will be interesting to see if Villa adapt thier style when Defoe plays.

I think defoe would be a fool 2 stay at spurs even if the Fred deal doesnt go through. He'll neva be higher than 3rd choice striker (if Berbatov stays) so y sit there catching splinters in North London 4? From when ur OWN manager is sayin "U can leave if u want jus clean out ur locker and close the door on the way out" its time 2 get ur coat. And id say hes more likely 2 get 1st team football at da villa.
