TF S4DK Posted June 24, 2008 Author Report Share Posted June 24, 2008 Dudek was once your number 1 keeper tho, like solidfied the spot and you was happy with him, thus why he got the shirt, he earned it.Reina came in after Dudek helped win you the CL, while Benetiz IMO was always changing keeper, he didnt need to take Dudek's number away too, and Reina still doesnt have the nuber 1 jersey a year after Dudek leaving and it being inactive. With our strikers.Moore and Harewood were given numbers 8 and 9 despite never being in MON's first team plans. It was just a confidence thing I think.Maybe he's just given it to Almunia because at the moment, he is the number 1 for you and the squad numbers have to be done.What does it say to Almunia if Wenger doesn't give it to him, and then doesn't buy another 'keeper? TF S4DK Posted June 25, 2008 Author Report Share Posted June 25, 2008 Almunia was Wenger first choice pick when he wore 24, he just gave him a new contract, let Jens go, and said he aint buying a nnew keeper pretty much as soon as the season was finished, I dont think Almunia needed his ego stroked anymore than that.Not signing a keeper and leaving the number 1 jersey open leaves that window to keep everybody on their toes. Personally I wouldnt have even given Almunia another year as my first choice but thats another debate and Wenger's choice. I'd just much preferred if I could say - Ok Wenger your not signing a keeper but leave Almunia at 24, Fabianski at 21, and you say to them right see the number 1 jersey its open, one of you can take it and make it yours next season year and if you both flop I'll replace you.When you do what Arsenal did last season, and its thin margins, Wenger owes it to the club to start being ruthless with the players/position that generally we consider as suspect and in need of tinkering. Almunia and the GK is one of those, IMO the highest, f*ck this oh we can get by sh*t, change it along with a new starting or 3rd choice CB. Just seems like Wenger putting faith in a player not knowing it can only end up blowing up in his face. It may just be a number but I cant express how swag I think Almunia is.
