wanna keep the ideas between myself and the other person involved for now. basically wanna get a new night started up, i've seen a big gap in the market. just not sure how to start up, i.e do contracts need to be drawn up between club owners and myself, what should i be expecting money wise, how is that usually handled, i.e promoters keep door money club keeps bar takings etc

isit in london?isit a student night?depends on wot music ur doing really. radio station adds are more of an extra, but ders only point if the ur target market are listenin to dem stations, which depends on the music again.

well yeh the shows and stations i got picked out, their listeners are my target audience. it's gonna be urban music that's all im sayin lol. I did A-Level media so I know some marketing stuff was gonna do it with a friend who started pr at uni, dunno if that's a good thing to get friends involved cause people are putting me off... to be fair I didn't really think it would be that much of an issue

I was gonna design flyers myself, do u need permission to use that Buffy girl and others like her? seen loads of flyers with them on doubt they've all be given permission..

i had a night for a little while where i live.just closed it down about 3 weeks ago, cus i had both of my djs pull out cus they moved out the area, and the manager of the venue wasnt happy with the margins he was loosing on the bar cus of the drinks promos.i was making about £200 profit each event out of it, wasnt really worth it for all the time i put into itthere was just a lack of places offering good house and electro music with cheap drink prices. also i had it running in partnership with a local studenty bar, and the promo that these guys generated for me for free was amazing.its harder to compete in the big university citys cus these peoplese marketing budgets and contacts are much greater than i could even think about

Draw up a marketing plan, hit the clubs and ask for the venue manager, tell him what you man are on, gas him on number of mailing lists and maybe buss a lie about previous experience but more time you wont need to. He'll most prob give you a weeknight unless the club is dead but so it go stillHe'll call you back, organise how the money ting will run. More time its a pay £200 (example) and they'll take on the bar. If they make over X on bar you'll get the club for free that night. That is an example of terms to expect. Maybe some others will chip in with other scenario's.Contracts are their ting they present to you. You signPromote via mix CDs and fliers really. f*ck radio really. Thats my 2 pence, but I could be gassin. Make sure you g/list this brutha right hurr

CD's aren't something I really thought about but that's a really good idea 001, aint seen that much tbh, even though I live in one of those 'major uni' cities. might see if I can sort something out with one of the student unions, a word of mouth thing. Can I set the drinks offers or is that out of my hands? 'cause hopefully I wanna get it runnign before Christmas when all the students are back,Kahuna: you live in Leeds right, that's a big uni city, what problems did u have?Yemoh: what u mean promo will take over my college etc? I knew it would but the plan is to get some money together before I start, so that I can give up my job and live off the promo money, easier said than done as money wont start coming in till after a few events Im guessin
