I just wondered, since africa is such a large country, which was also supposedly extreemy advanced and powerful...how was it ever taken over into slavery?also, how did like 3 or 4 slave masters actually get like 500 slaves onto a slaveship? like, y didnt they jus over power dem?
To put it simply, they didnt. Theres no way that the amount of ships were able to enslave the whole of the West coast of Africa. They traded stuff like gunpowder with the tribal masters in exchance for slaves. That way they didnt have to fight with however many natives there were; they could just take their slaves then be gone.Money is the root of all evil (for both parties)
yea i hear the whole "white men had guns/money etc. but, the blacks wer supposed to have all the gold wealth and advanced technology so really what did the whites have to offer?!also if its the case the that we were sold buy our own slavemansters den really the whole slave trade was our own fault?!?!?!?!?

beat me to it, f*ck sake man its actually sad to see someone educated in great britain be so dumb.
I'll never forget like the 3rd day of uni first year and I'm sat with everyone in my flat mingling in the kitchen and then we get into a conversation about geography, 3 of 6 people in the room were ready to bet their lives on their thinking that Jamaica was in Africa. Also claimed Africa was a country. From that moment I knew I'd failed at life, these people were actually attending my university. But yea, state education in this country is f*ck*ng sh*t.

It was not your own fault. The white people would have probably taken the slaves anyway, just the practice of trade made it easier for them to do. tbh the whole 'us and them' approach towards the slave trade is counter productive. We need to realise that the slave trade was a product of its time. Most europeans at had never come across a black person at that time and so the f*ckry was condoned by scientific racism which no longer exists in this day and age. Africa was very rich in natural resources and so this was a further incentive for the slavery/colonisation period. Lets not frget that Africa was tribal and so the nations which exist today (through colonialism) didnt exist back then. This would have inhibited the technological progress of West Africa and so it would make sense that Europeans were far more technologically advanced (hence why the europeans had muskets etc. and the Africans didn't)

Apparently there was slavery in africa before the europeans landed, they just exploited it on a much larger scale.
Yeah, The Arab Slave Trade.
the arab slave trade was different, wasnt a race thing they got slaves from everywhere. North african pirates enslaved around 1 million europeans.

the arabs took slaves across the desert in chains and beheaded the ones who cdnt continue. allow painting arab slave trade like it was tea and biscuits.you only need to see what is happening in darfur to know that arabs and muslims are barbarians moretime.

*Whats that smell?*anti1.jpgcase-study-spray-top.jpg*Better*Anyway, is this guy aware that Africans sold thieves, criminals or sometimes just kidnapped people to the europeans, then the europeans began taking the piss and raiding defenseless villages?+Calling the europeans technologically or socially advanced can only be talking from the western perspective. From the seventh century, Arab trade with sub-Saharan Africa led to a gradual colonisation of East Africa, around Zanzibar and other bases. Although trans-Saharan trade led to a small number of West African cities developing Arab quarters, these were not intended as colonies, and while Morocco attempted to conquer areas of the Sahel in the Moroccan war, it was soon forced to withdraw its troops after pillaging the area.Early European expeditions concentrated on colonising previously uninhabited islands such as the Cape Verdes and Sao Tome Island, or establishing coastal forts as a base for trade. These forts often developed areas of influence along coastal strips, but (with the exception of the River Senegal), the vast interior of Africa was not colonised and indeed little-known to Europeans until the late nineteenth century.Vincent Khapoya mentions Ali Masrui's three interrelated broad reasons for European exploration of Africa: to increase knowledge, to spread Christianity and to increase national esteem.[6] Khapoya continues with a listing of reasons ("political/strategic, cultural and economic") for colonialism.[7]
