What Rafael needs is a centre back pairing that can hide his negatives and highlight his positive attributes. He also needs a leadership figure around him.

I understand why people won't rate that team, but if you look at properly it's not all that laughable, and in certain aspects makes total sense. Valencia could be good in that role, good enough? Dunno but I'd rather see him there than our on the right where he seems to have forgotten how to play.

Did he not play centrally on occasions for Wigan and internationally?

Carrick would offer enough cover if on form, Valencia in there would add the mobility that Carrick lacks, Carrick would look after the ball whilst Valencia maybe wouldn't, yin and yang type of approach,

The front line is good, the Defence could work in certain situations,
