Guest Intervention
A man who brandished a broom handle at staff at an East Croydon fast-food outlet before snatching a bag of burger buns and fleeing has been jailed for 12 months after he was arrested by British Transport Police (BTP) officers. Richard Ogilvie Taylor (20), of Eden Park Road, Beckenham, was sentenced at Croydon Crown Court on Friday, 9 April, after pleading guilty to robbery, possession of an offensive weapon, and obstructing police. A member of Burger King staff was cleaning the customer area of the fast-food chain at East Croydon rail station around 3.55am on Saturday, 31 October when Ogilvie Taylor approached and brandished a metal pole – later identified as a broken, metal broom handle. PC Mark Agrippa, based at Croydon BTP station on Addiscombe Road, said: “Despite the outlet being closed, Ogilvie Taylor walked in and told the member of staff he would hit him with the broom handle unless he stayed still. “Fearing he would be hurt, the member of staff complied, at which point Ogilvie Taylor snatched a nearby bag of burger buns and fled.” Ogilvie Taylor then waved the broom handle menacingly at a station security guard before running out of the station. He was then pursued by two Metropolitan Police officers, who had been approached and informed about the incident by staff and concerned members of the public. The officers saw Ogilvie Taylor flee into Colson Road and drop the broom handle but he was caught and arrested following a short foot chase. After being taken into custody for further questioning, Ogilvie Taylor tried to provide a false name and address but an electronic fingerprint scan, linked to records held on the Police National Computer, revealed his true identity. PC Agrippa added: “Having Ogilvie Taylor approach brandishing a weapon and threatening to hurt him must have been very frightening and intimidating for the member of staff, who was simply trying to do his job. “Why he felt the need to intimidate and threaten someone to that extent simply for a bag of burger buns is beyond comprehension and we welcome the one year prison sentence handed down to him.” ------- Man took 4 buns

RaiKkoNen
How can you jail someone for stealing 4 buns? Dumbness, clearly mentally unstable, just commit him and keep it moving till he's better mentally. Now tax payers money will get wasted feeding this idiot for 12 months. Retarded sentence.

NO SUNSHINE
Well...you do know taxpayers money pays for people in psychiatric hospitals right? @ Ant i wish I used that as a title tbh Yeah except he'd never be commited for 12 months. The sentence is FAIL in everyway. It's quite clear he wasn't jailed because of the monetary value of the items he stole. He was jailed for the threats and intimidation he used, as well as the theft.
