The Spurs Thread

Last season we got 7 points from our first 7 games. 4 of those 7 games were at home. And they included defeats to Everton and Man Utd (and Bolton). We finished 5th in the league. Our 7th game this season will be against Bolton. 4 of these 7 games are away.Man Utd will be even more amped than usual on Sunday, so common sense would count that a loss. For argument's sake, let's say we lose to Arsenal next month as well. That means all we need is 4 points from playing Fulham and Bolton to equal our start last season. (When we finished 5th in the league).Even if we lose one, we'll have 6 from 7, all with a starting XI WORSE than last season's (until everybody gets back from injury). Which is 'quite good' in comparison (considering the circumstances), no?If I can see this from sitting in my f*cking yard, how will the Spurs board not? Daniel Levy doesn't strike me as a idiot. He's not a Freddy f*cking Shepherd. Which is why he got a Spurs legend to manage us as soon as ENIC took over the club. Didn't work out. But he then got Arnesen. Who headhunted Jol. Who was then made manager. And got us to 5th place twice. I don't understand why Levy would ever undo all that now by making an incredibly stupid decision.

Jol aint going nowhere for now. This is some email a member of a Spurs forum got from some people up at Spurs. He holds weight in one way or another and mingles with important people at the club.

Andrew, as I know you are always in the chatroom, can I provide you with the current position please. Re Ramos, Klinsmann etc - We are not negotiating with any managers about the replacement of Martin Jol at this time. We are an ambitious club and it is a realistic ambition that we should look to CL qualification, so anything that looks like we may not make it is bound to lead to speculation and we fully expect that. No manager's future is decided on one or two games and it is insulting to suggest that this board would do that. Re Martin and Damien - they have a good working relationship - the football management board works - no player comes into this club that Martin doesnt agree to - it would be ludicrous to suggest that money would be spent on players Martin did not favour and whom he would not then play, Damien has brought talent to the club with Martin's approval - and we would not have players like Berbatov and Bale without him to mention but two (there are obviously many more).Re left position - always difficult as evidenced by the fact that the majority of prem teams (Liverpool a notable exception) play a right footer on the left. We have Lennon, Malbranque (who played a blinder on the left yesterday) Bale and Keane. So we have many options and yet we will still look as depth is a key factor of the squad. Please let me know if any rumours running amok that I have not answered here - will be happy to! best regards,

Another twist....For f*ck sake.

Juande Ramos, the Seville head coach, contacted The Times last night after statements attributed to him at a press conference in Spain had forced Tottenham Hotspur to issue a furious denial that he had been offered the managerâs job at White Hart Lane. Ramos was reported to have said that he had received a âdizzyingâ offer to replace Martin Jol at the Barclays Premier League club, but that moving to London immediately was never a real possibility. âThey [Tottenham] made an excellent, dizzying offer, but Iâm under contract and my decision is to fulfil it,â Ramos was alleged to have said. âThere was not the slightest possibility that I would accept it because Iâm under contract. It did not interest me.â However, in a phone conversation with The Times, Ramos said that his words had been mistranslated and he apologised to Tottenham, who had insisted earlier that they had not offered Jolâs job to anyone. âI did not get offered the Spurs job at all,â Ramos insisted. âThere never was an offer on the table from them. Spurs is a big club and anyone would be interested in the opportunity [of managing them], but it is not one for me now.â Nevertheless, with speculation over Jolâs future still rife despite an uneasy truce having apparently been reached between the Dutchman and his club on Tuesday, some questions remain unanswered. âI have friends that tell me what is going on with other clubs and I would listen to them out of courtesy,â he said. âI did not personally meet anybody from Spurs; maybe other people did in search of information.â A meeting of some description took place in which Ramos discussed his future with either âa friendâ or a representative of Spurs, but he categorically denies that an offer was made. âPeople are talking about wages and an offer from Tottenham,â he said. âI never got an offer to take charge of the club. âWhen I described a possible offer as âdizzyingâ, I only meant the kind of money English clubs can pay at the moment makes any possible offer dizzying. People have put words in my mouth. âI want to apologise if I have upset anybody. It was not my intention. In the press conference I only wanted to show clearly my commitment to Seville. I have a big project on my hands and I am very proud to lead it. I am staying at Seville.â Tottenham will regard Ramosâs clarification as vindication after earlier reports had forced them to repeat their denial. âThe club policy is and always will be to carry factually accurate information on its official website,â a club statement read. âEarlier today a statement on this site confirmed that no individual had been made an offer for the manager/coach position at the club whilst Martin Jol has been in situ. That was and remains wholly accurate.â Under Ramos, Seville have won five trophies in two years, including successive Uefa Cups. His contract expires at the end of this season and he has not reached an agreement to renew it, although José MarÃa del Niro, the Seville president, has said that âJuande is going to stay with us until the end of the season . . . at leastâ. The perceived lack of recognition from the club could have led to the meetings with âfriendsâ and the mounting speculation about his future.

Trust. Media and the Tottenham board are not helping the situation one bit. Trying to make us look like West Ham.We should really be focusing on signing an Creative midfielder or a Left winger instead of f*cking about with other peoples managers.Any news of Riqueleme situation? or was that another bullshit story

It's a massivly interesting game for both clubs.Steed and Keane been in the news saying the squad has never been united more so in their time at Spurs. While Man Utd NEED to win.Such an open game i think. And we have done OK at O.T under Jol, shoulda won 1 (mendes incident), drew 1 and lost 1 in an even game.A win would be unthinkable surely....especially if Gardner starts, im going for 1-1 or 2-2.

We need Huddlestone to start in that game.Remember when we had Carrick, he was f*ckin sick at breaking up their play. Zokora just runs alot. Don't get me wrong, he's a good squad player and gives his all but we have to stop playing the guy as our 'defensive' midfielder 'cause hes hardly ever proctecting the back 4 which we badly need against the likes of Tevez, Nani, Giggs and them man.I wished Jenas played sh*t last week, so he was more likly to play good in this game. I have a feeling he's going to play so sh*t i'm going to want him to leave the club, hopefully im wrong though lol

lol @ people (arsenal fans) seriously believing Jol wanted to sell Berbatov following the Sunderland game? That he didn't pick Bent in the first game as a "snub to Comolli"? That the usually mild mannered Defoe had a "screaming match" with him after the Derby game? That the players are "increasingly puzzled" by his tactics?I could go on, but the statements from players such as Robbo, Keane and Bent seem to reflect the truth to me.And even if there is a modicum of truth in any of the claims, it does the club no credit to leak/spin them. Arguments happen at the top of every successful company.
