FROCH VS. TAYLOR

NO SUNSHINE

Carl Froch will make the first defence of his WBC super-middleweight crown against American Jermain Taylor in Connecticut on 25 April. The undefeated Nottingham boxer, 31, won the WBC title by beating Canadian Jean Pascal in December, and will be fighting in America for the first time. The contest at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket will shown live by American broadcaster Showtime.Taylor defeated Jeff Lacy in November to become the mandatory challenger."This isn't a case of a young fighter on the way up taking advantage of a big name on the way out or two old timers cashing out with a big payday - this is a real fight," said Mick Hennessy, Froch's promoter."You've got two of the world's finest fighters, both at the peak of their powers and out to prove that they are amongst the world's best pound-for-pound fighters." Can Froch beat Taylor?Former undisputed middleweight champion Taylor lost his title to Kelly Pavlik in 2007 and has been defeated twice in a 31-fight career. The 30-year-old first claimed the middleweight title in 2005 having beaten fellow American Bernard Hopkins on points in Las Vegas. He retained the title against Hopkins five months later and went on to make three further defences before Pavlik inflicted the first of two defeats in September 2007.Taylor stepped up a weight to record a unanimous points victory over fellow American Lacy in a WBC super-middleweight title eliminator last November.Froch holds a perfect 24-0 record with 19 KOs."I expect fireworks in this match-up," said DiBella Entertainment President Lou DiBella."There is an aggressive, straight-ahead, rugged champion fighting a seasoned athletic warrior. It is a can't-miss fight and the title will change hands."No details have been announced of which UK broadcaster will show the fight.

The broadcasting of this will be interesting. Cos from what I know Carl Froch is contracted to itv? But itv don't like showing fights at times when people are not likely to be awake to watch, having previously lost out on viewing figures by broadcasting fights at later times apparently. So the only way around this stupid rule of theirs would be to show it the next day at a time they believe people would be watching which kind of takes away the whole excitment of a saturday night live fight.Either way I don't see itv showing this live which would mean Setanta buying into it some how and itv losing yet another fighter from their bill.

I think it was a money ting too. Froch's the only genuine British World Champion, so as with anyone, that will be the biggest bargaining tool. Froch's a cocky bastard who knows his business (doing very well in real estate) so naturally, the first conclusion I came to was hes asking for too much. Obviously, Hennesy is dealing with it so he has to take blame as well. TV musta called their bluff and told them to f*ck off.Shame really, and yeah I think you have to pay.

Watching this on Sunday...
SameNot worth staying up to watch on computer if it's on TV a few hours later. I'll just avoid finding out the result.
What I was thinking except itv1 are showing it after 11pm on the Sunday. And itv4 wont show it before 8:30ish pm. That would mean avoiding the internet and any form of news/sports news for a the best part of a day.

Froch K.O % - 78%Definatly on the rise after ending Polishman Albert Rybacki 15 unbeaten record albeit against journeymen(Froch was supposed to meet Denis Inkin) he stepped up and slogged 12 rounds against Jean Pascal who's ranked 17th in the world at Super Middleweight which really put him on the map, he has knock out power and shouldn't be ruled out tonight.Taylor K.O % - 54%Taylor the more expieranced of the two at this level, boxing just over 70% more rounds than Froch which includes going the distance in 2008 against Kelly Pavlik a hyped up remated and coming off that fight to controll Jeff Lacy ranked 11th in the world at Super Middleweight with some precise jabs and should be a formidable opponant for Froch.SummaryI think Taylor can control this fight especially if he can land few big blows early as he showed when dropping Pavlik in the early stages of their first engagment, then proceed to pick off Froch with the jabs but it comes as no surprise Taylor is susceptable to power in the later rounds which Froch can provide, but I am definatly leaning towards Taylor here and looks a good price @ 2(evens)
