e.g jews were prohibited from owning land or being tradesmen in much of medieval europe, so instead they became merchants and moneylenders. The christian church had rules against charging interest on loans, jewish moneylenders charged interest. Kings were forced to take loans off the jews to fund wars, crusades etc. jews made a fortune.
