A Jamaican woman living illegally in the United Kingdom was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment after she falsely claimed more than £80,000 in benefits, The London Evening Standard has reported.

Laura Lee Jones, 37, pleaded guilty in the Wood Green Crown court to fraud.

Information reaching THE STAR is that the presiding judge also ruled that once Jones completes her sentence she will be deported.

Allegations are that in March 2004, Jones started claiming housing benefit and council tax benefit from Enfield council using the name Clover Jameson.

THE STAR understands that in 2005 she registered her son's birth in Enfield and pretended to be a single mother. However, her partner also registered the child in the borough of Waltham Forest.

An investigation team later learned that Jones had no legal right to reside in the UK and used false identification to enter the country and claim benefits.

When officers visited her registered address in Edmonton, they discovered she was not living there. Further checks revealed that she was living with her partner in Walthamstow where their child attended school.

Jones was later arrested and charged.
