Bus fares to be slashedBy Dan MenhinnittCommentBus fares for Oyster card users are to fall by 10 per cent from the end of September.London mayor Ken Livingstone yesterday announced the move which will see the single bus fare fall from ã1 to 90p on Pay as You Go.The price of a weekly travel card will also fall from ã14 to ã13 from September 30.Mr Livingstone said: "I am pleased that the strength of London's economy, and efficiencies achieved by TfL, mean that fares can now be reduced with no cutback in the investment programme or financial risk to the transport budget."This economic strength and operating efficiency creates benefits that should be returned to Londoners."The cost of reducing the fare amounts to around ã20million for the financial year up to the beginning of April 2008 and approximately ã36million in a full financial year.1:47am today

Too many people hate on Ken Livingstone, when they dont realise some of the good he has done.I should be driving soon, but it dont matter cause at the end of the day no-ones driving into central london (city, west end, Canary Wharf).its cheaper now (in real terms) than it was before he assumed power.

Driving or taking the bus is more or less the same now a daysã1 of petrol in a 1.0L car will take u at most 10 miles at motorway driving, but for start and stop traffic it will be less miles & most bus jounerys are more than 10 miles, deduct the congestion charge fee and parking charges and u have cheaper travel by public transport
