Yeah man its like 26.9% apr or something, can't remember. I usually deal in cash but I use it for dumb sh*t to build credit, I want to buy a house so its gonna do me a favour in the long run. My credit limit is a bit sheg though, on ã600 but I spose that will do for now.I always always always pay it off. Every month. Even when I've maxed the limit. You should be able to get one if you have a job because when u first get it the limit is only ã200.

yeh thats the way forward they cant touch you with those extortionate charges if it's paid off in full every month. i'm getting one for the future too. dont wana be someone who comes out of uni in debt and with no credit history.

Capital One sent me a letter today matter of fact....went straight to the shredder.
Aww J you should have taken it. They would be doing you a favour in the long run if you're sensible with it. Believe me.
Please explain in detail.
its quite simple really.get a credit card on the side. use it for one small purchase every month say ã20. set up your direct debit to pay off the outstanding amount on your card in full every month. after a few years you will have built a good credit rating.so you can either appply for a credit card with better rates or when you go for a loan/mortgage to put towards a house or car the lender will give you more money as you have a proven track record with paying off your card on time.

Interesting. So if I pay it off at the end of the month I don't get charged any interest? If it's a direct debit, doesn't it have to be the same amount every month? What if the thing I buy is less or more?

I'm sure they have the option to clear the balance by full or meet the minimum required payment. If you're good with making payments setup a DD for the minimum required payment then make additional payments to clear balance. That way say if you spent ã1000 one month but don't have a grand in your current account where the DD is coming from, the fact that you've met the minimum payment will mean you won't have missed a payment and it will bear no affect on your credit rating.Oh and Eks you have 56 days to make the payment before you get charged interest. So the best time to make purchases is straight after your statement is printed cos you'll have like 56 days to make a payment / clear the balance.

nah it doesnt. ask your bank to pay it off in full every month and they will. doesnt have to be a certain amount and yes you dont incur interest charges if you pay it off in full on time.say the bill is ã20 and you pay off ã19 by direct debit you will be made to pay the interest charges on the outstanding ã1. you shouldnt really be paying more into accounts for credit because some charge you extra for withdrawing cash or balance transfers.

But my mum has never had a credit card....
Your mum msut be blacklisted. Even Littlewoods would decline her an account. She'd be lucky to scrape a mobile phone still.BTW, those of you who are all on this credit thing one word of advice... DO NOT TAKE OUT LOADS OF CREDIT AT ONE TIME. Meaning do not get a credit card, store card, mobile phone contract and mortgage within the space of 3 weeks. Too many credit searches = Bad look on your credit rating.
